The Children's Place has an interesting ownership mix, with majority shareholder being Blackrock, Inc.:

From there up the shareholder food chain, it is just a scramble of financial holding companies, holding more financial holding companies, ad infinitum.
It's almost as if any personal connection to this robot of a store has been wiped clean. Little wonder it failed.
Historically, the old classic moderate and fine department stores were family-run. Young anons won't remember these, but anyone old enough to remember shopping with mom and grandma at Rich's, Davison's, Jordan Marsh, Parisian, etc knows how and why they were different. Lunch in the Magnolia Room, even for a squirmy kid, was a treat.
It would be SUCH joy to see the economy bloom and flourish in a way that would allow these wonderful stores to exist again.
I am old, and appreciate the convenience of shopping online as much as the next guy, but let's face it, there's really no substitute for being able to actually try on clothes and shoes.
No-service big boxes like Kohl's and Macy's are no substitute at all.
Make department stores great again.
