it is also widely associated with hypnagogic imagery or hallucinations. you know when you're starting to fall asleep or deep in meditation and you start to see things with your eyes closed. so…. what's the meaning here

it's possible. in my opinion the word hypnagogic should not be designated to the state just before falling asleep. hypnagogic imagery can and will happen as one wakes up as well.
