Philadelphia police officer shot in Kensington; 1 person in custody

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Police are investigating after an officer was shot in Kensington Wednesday morning.The incident happened around 11 a.m. on the 3100 block of Reach Street.

Sources tell FOX 29 that the officer, who was on foot patrol with his partner, rolled up on an active scene when he was struck by gunfire. The partner engaged in a foot pursuit of two suspects, who reportedly fled the scene by car. One suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

Sources say SWAT was already on the scene responding to a barricade situation. A heavy police presence is in the area. Officials have yet to identify the injured officer, who was shot in the leg and is in stable condition.
