What makes an interesting screen play?
-
Polar protagonists and antagonists?
-
Or interesting, complex ones… Mostly good, but with some rough edges and a twinge of Machiavelli….and Mostly bad, but with a tiny bit of misguided do-gooder traits?
-
Steamrolling over the opponent as a juggernaut?
-
Or struggling from weakness to build capability, collecting trophies…then suffering a turning of the tide, rallying back against the odds, to eventually overcome the hard-fought battle?
-
Saving the world as an unstoppable superpower? Or doing it with a band of disregarded resistance fighters and half your public allies are actually traitors and assassins?
-
Think movie script and it all starts to make sense. Playing on 'God mode' isn't nearly as interesting as winning playing the game on 'Hard'. Or better yet, on 'Expert'…where there are numerous, very tough enemies, difficult objectives, and limited assistance and resources.
So, this is how movies work in the future. Cool.
