You get a job in that field by:

1) Your ASVAP/Psych eval identify potential.

2) Your MOS/AFSC. Most start in related fields and separate themselves from the pack in a variety of ways.

3) Receiving transfer from original MOS/AFSC that can come in the form of many different ways.

4) Background check ensues where (at least it used to work like this) the FBI will use your "background" references and begin to seek out and interview people NOT on your list.

5) You are granted a higher level intel clearance.
