Salty after losing election, Texas judge releases defendants who promise not to kill anyone
After losing his spot on the bench in Tuesday's elections, one South Texas judge's bad mood appeared to travel with him Wednesday.
According to a report from the Houston Chronicle , Republican Harris County Juvenile Court Judge Glenn Devlin released nearly all the youthful defendants on his Wednesday docket so long as they promised not to kill anyone.
"Apparently he was saying that's what the voters wanted," public defender Steven Halpert told the Chronicle.
In a statement, the county's district attorney's office expressed concern over the judge's releases, which included some defendants in violent crime cases, warning of a danger to the public.
Seven kids were given their release in all, including four facing charges of aggravated robbery.
