THOUSAND OAKS SHOOTING DIG:

I was taking notes last night here on the board as info on the TO shooting began to emerge. Not much detail came out but two things stood out.

  1. A witness in the bar said the shooter yelled something before he began shooting. There is no mention of this in later reports.

  1. Randy Sutton, an law enforcement expert, said this shooting fits the profile of a European-style terrorist attack (see why below).

RANDY SUTTON INTERVIEW

Around 2:30 PST, reporters from local FOX affiliate in LA talked briefly on the phone with former Las Vegas metro police Lt. Randy Sutton, a “nationally known commentator on Law Enforcement issues”:

Q–What have you been hearing?

>Suspect is dead; don't know how he died. He is a middle eastern male, was shouting something prior to

the shooting. He got multiple shots off.

Q–Were smoke bombs used?

>It was indicative of a well-planned event, would be "consistent with a terrorist attack similar to what has been seen in Europe." It’s too early to label it as such, but it’s similar. They see a number of victims they can take out; these are soft targets. This was an indoor venue. By deploying smoke bombs, you create mass confusion, you throw devices like this into the venue.

Q–What kind of gun?

>Probably a semi-automatic pistol or rifle. Doesn't matter the number of rounds, either weapon would be the same.

Q–What else?

>If the subject planned this, which he clearly did…..[disgustingly, the reporters cut Sutton off in mid-sentence to go get emotional reactions from newly-discovered escapees]

Sutton took on MSM over the coverage of the shooting Michael Brown:

>“This is a challenge to CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS News. I challenge you to allow the perspective of a 34 year veteran Police Officer to be heard on the shooting of Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson MO… I was in Ferguson after the initial riots and it was clear then that CNN and the other media were following an agenda of misinformation and prejudice against Officer Wilson. I left in disgust as the press vilified this young Officer while they fanned the flames of hate and distrust against an entire profession…..”
