I enjoyed season 3 immensely. It gets way deeper into the metaphysics and overall oddness of the Twin Peaks world. I did not enjoy the second half of season 2 so much, except for the last few episodes. There is a dramatic climax somewhere before season 2 ends and after that, beware!
I agree. I have an older post about Twin Peaks in the ~'hollywood popular culture and the occult' that gets into this. I have wondered if something leaked intentionally by Kennedy.
