i'm an any time i'm awake fag and i think i can answer. the astrobiology / ufology community has recently declared that aliens are just as likely from a different dimension as they are a different planet. every ancient description of angels/demons/aliens/spirits falls within this category.
all spiritual understandings declare that the consciousness is wholly separated from the brain, emotions and the body. the "soul" or "spirit" is an eternal life force behind the concept of (you). this life force is temporarily "trapped"/"incarcerated" within your body.
