Teacher caught on video punching student gets GoFundMe page for legal fees — and it soars past $170K

A high school music teacher who was caught on video repeatedly punching a 14-year-old student inside a classroom got a GoFundMe page set up for him by a fellow school district employee to assist with legal fees — and as of Friday morning the funds topped $170,000.

“This is Marston Riley, and I’m letting you know that this GoFundMe page is legit,” Riley, the teacher in question, said in a video posted on the GoFundMe page. “I want to thank Cecilia Diaz for setting it up for me, and I want to thank you for supporting me.”

What happened?

Riley, 64, was arrested Nov. 2 on suspicion of child abuse and causing great bodily injury on a child, KTLA-TV reported, after the incident at Maywood Academy High School, which is in the Los Angeles County school district.

He was released Saturday morning after posting $50,000 bail, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing Sheriff’s Department inmate records, and is scheduled for a Nov. 30 arraignment.

What are students saying?

All the students who spoke to KTLA Friday night were sympathetic to Riley and said the student in the video pushed him too far. In fact, one student told the station it was a setup.

A feud has now erupted between President Trump and former First Lady Michelle Obama, and it's all very Trumpian.

According to The Hill, the former First Lady excoriates the current President in her upcoming memoir, titled "Becoming," in which she announces she will "never forgive" President Trump for spreading the birther conspiracy in the years leading up to his 2016 candidacy. She writes:

The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed. But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks. What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.

While the birther conspiracy was indeed ridiculous, it did not begin with President Trump. Though the conspiracy's origins are hard to trace, it is undeniable that Hillary Clinton helped push it during the 2008 primary when her campaign aide Sidney Blumenthal sent a respected journalist from McClatchy over to Kenya to investigate the charge. Former McClatchy Washington Bureau chief James Asher admitted to this recently.

Michelle Obama has said nothing about her desire to forgive or not forgive Hillary Clinton over the whole birther affair. In fact, the First Lady endorsed Hillary in 2016.

The former First Lady also commented on the infamous "grab 'em by the p***y" comment that Trump uttered in the "Access Hollywood" tape, saying her "body buzzed with fury" when she heard it.

She wrote: "It was an expression of hatred that had generally been kept out of polite company, but still lived in the marrow of our supposedly enlightened society — alive and accepted enough that someone like Donald Trump could afford to be cavalier about it."

President Trump has elected not to let Michelle Obama's criticism of him slide and decided to hit back, alleging she wrote that passage to generate controversy for more book sales.

"She got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always expect a little controversy," President Trump told reporters on told reporters Friday morning.

The President then said he will "never forgive" President Obama for destroying the U.S. military and leaving him a mess to clean up.

"I’ll give you a little controversy back, I’ll never forgive [Barack Obama] for what he did to our United States military. By not funding it properly, it was depleted," he said. "What he did to our military made this country very unsafe for you and you and you."

Michelle Obama will be kicking off a 10-city book tour in her hometown of Chicago on Tuesday. Some, like Michael Moore, have pushed the former First Lady as a 2020 contender, though she has given no indication of ever planning to run.

"We have to run a beloved American. Obama became beloved the night of that convention and he was beloved from that moment on. It’s got to be like a Michelle Obama or a Sully Sullenberger," Moore told MSNBC recently.

Nine Arrested In Texas For Alleged Illegal Voting Scheme, Says State AG

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Thursday that several individuals were arrested in the Lone Star state for allegedly orchestrating an illegal voting scheme in the city of Edinburg in the Rio Grande Valley.

The attorney general’s Election Fraud Unit arrested nine people following an ongoing probe into “a coordinated effort by political workers to recruit people who agree to fraudulently claim residential addresses so they could vote in specific city of Edinburg municipal races,” according to a statement from Paxton’s office.

“Illegal voting, particularly an organized illegal voting scheme orchestrated by political operatives, is an affront to democracy and results in corruption at the highest level,” said Paxton. “Each illegal vote silences the voice of a law-abiding registered voter.”

Paxton identified the nine individuals as Guadalupe Sanchez Garza, Araceli Gutierrez, Brenda Rodriguez, Rosendo Rodriguez, Cynthia Tamez, Ruby Tamez, Belinda Rodriguez, Felisha Yolanda Rodriguez and Jerry Gonzalez, Jr. He also asserted that more arrests are expected in the future and urged anyone with further information to come forward.

“My office will continue to do everything in its power to uncover illegal voting schemes and bring to justice those who try to manipulate the outcome of elections in Texas,” he continued.

Paxton noted that 33 individuals in 2018 have been prosecuted for election fraud violations. In Texas, voting in an election illegally is a second-degree felony that is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to another press release from Paxton’s office.

If you’ve ever taken the time to look over the ingredients label on food products, there’s a good chance you’ve found some words you aren’t familiar with. They also called for the regulations governing these chemicals to be overhauled.

With more than 10,000 chemicals in the food that we eat, it simply isn’t practical to expect anyone to be able to separate the good from the bad. Therefore, the report singled out a few groups in particular, including phthalates, BPA, nitrates, PFCs, and artificial food colorings.

These chemicals’ effects on the endocrine system are particularly concerning. Phthalates and bisphenols can have a negative effect on puberty or even advance its onset, and they can also increase the risk of infertility, obesity, and other chronic conditions. Exposure to PFC, meanwhile, results in low birth weight and damages fetuses that are developing, while nitrates are linked to some types of cancer.

On November 8 and November 9, the Saudi-UAE-led coalition faced some significant issues with its advance on the Houthis-held port city of al-Hudaydah.

Using the deep involvement of coalition-led forces in clashes near al-Hudaydah and overstretched supply lines of coalition forces, the Houthis carried out an “unexpected” attack on coalition positions at the Huseiniyah corssroads. Thus, they cut off the only supply line of the coalition forces involved in the battle of al-Hudaydah.

According to pro-Houthi sources, a dozen of coalition-backed fighters were killed and at least 3 vehicles were destroyed in this attack.

On the same time, the Houthis’ attack on coalition forces south of al-Hudaydah did not solve all the issues faced by the movement near the city itself. Al-Huaydah is still partly encircled by coalitionl-led forces. Furhermore, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and their proxies keep their advantage in manpower and military equipment in the area.

The Saudi Air Force continues massive air strikes on positions of the Houthis in and near the city. If the coalition solves its problems south of al-Hudaydah soon, it will likely be able to continue developing its tactical success in the battle of al-Hudaydah.
