Aluminiums used for the wheels have a melting point at around 650-700°C, some are made with Zamac (Zinc + Aluminium alloy) which have a melting point much lower at around 400°C.
Steel wheels have a mutch higher melting point around 1000°C.
More and more aluminium and composites are used in modern cars for weight reasons, but these materials don't resist to fire like steel.
