I grew up using sign language. Go ahead, make the sign as illustrated, then drop your hand down as Melania has hers.

Your finger and thumb naturally wants to touch. It takes a conscious act to keep them separated for someone not "fluent", but even deaf people will "slur" or "drawl" their sign language. Much like you can still read a sentence properly with certain amount of misspelling because the mind fills the gaps based on context.
