In NYS it is squarely a state "thing". The "Forever Wild" clause in the NYS constitution has made the entire Adirondack Park (9,375 square miles!) has made this massive state park a tinderbox due to beyond the pale restrictions on any type of sustainable forestry as well as removal of ANY felled, dry deadwood. State foresters and rangers know that the State is one accurate lightning strike from losing ten of thousands of acres. In addition, Forever Wild has made the entirety of upstate NY an economic no-go zone due to the massive amount of regulatory restrictions within the Adirondack Park.
