They aren't Catholic. They are lines that are part of all Orthodox liturgies. It's only in a few NT copies. I suspect some monk just had it accidentally ingrained in his head from church services and included it.
Maybe. I'm kind of just leaning on them being simple criminals… who've simply tested the risk/reward of their actions and keep upping the ante.
