Blackberry was in Canada. Bought embedded OS company - not based on *NIX. Would be much harder to compromise depending on the implementation. There was a dust-up in the MSM about Saudi Arabia and Blackberries before they stopped making phones about opening up security.

I think it is possible Blackberry still makes phones, but they're secure and only for the elite.

My guess is Blackberry was killed because cabal had thoroughly compromised Apple + Samsung and got resistance from Blackberry. Easier to just kill Blackberry than keep fighting it. Canadian company, so who cares?
