LONDON (Reuters) - Iranian authorities have seized more than six tonnes of heroin destined for Europe and dismantled five international gangs who were trafficking the drugs, state media reported on Tuesday.

European nationals were among 11 members of one of the main gangs who were arrested, Iran’s intelligence ministry said.

A ministry statement carried on state news agency IRNA did not specify the nationality of the detainees or the date of the operations.

Drug trafficking is a serious challenge for the Islamic Republic as it borders Afghanistan - the world’s largest opium producer - and Pakistan, a major transit country for drugs….

Nov. 13 (UPI) – Airbnb and eBay have joined Google and Facebook as the latest tech giants to end forced arbitration for sexual harassment claims.

That means employees cannot be forced to settle workplace harassment claims privately as a condition of employment. Critics say too often, forced arbitration protects high-profile tech executives from embarrassing claims.

"We are a company who believes that in the 21st Century it is important to continually consider and reconsider the best ways to support our employees and strengthen our workplace," an Airbnb spokesman said in a statement. "From the beginning, we have sought to build a culture of integrity and respect, and today's changes are just one more step to drive belonging and integrity in our workplace."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators have reached a tentative accord on the first major rewrite of criminal justice sentencing in a generation, but now it’s up to President Donald Trump to decide if it’s worth making a push for the sweeping bipartisan bill during the lame-duck session of Congress.

The package has been a top priority of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senators presented the ideas to Trump at the White House over the summer. Congressional aides and advocacy groups said the lawmakers are close to an agreement on the legislation, which would boost rehabilitation efforts for federal prisoners and give judges more discretion when sentencing non-violent offenders, particularly for drug offenses.

Monica Lewinsky has sat down for numerous interviews over the past two decades, but rarely has she spoken about her affair with former president Bill Clinton.

That is all set to change however with new A&E docuseries The Clinton Affair, where Lewinsky discusses everything from how Clinton wooed her to the infamous stain on her blue dress.

In one episode, which was viewed by the New York Post, Lewinsky says that she was not even aware the dress was stained and one point believed she had gotten spinach dip on the frock, as mentioned in The Starr Report.

She also said that she got the stain after performing a sex act on the president in the Oval office bathroom, shortly after he gifted her a hat pin and copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass

NEW YORK (AP) — The FBI says hate crimes reports were up about 17 percent in 2017, marking a rise for the third year in a row.

An annual report shows there were more than 7,100 reported hate crimes last year. There were increases in attacks motivated by racial bias, religious bias and because of a victim’s sexual orientation.

The report, released Tuesday, shows there was a nearly 23 percent increase in religion-based hate crimes. There was a 37 percent spike in anti-Jewish hate crimes.

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker says the report is a “call to action.” He says the offenses were “despicable violations of our core values as Americans.”

The FBI says although the number of attacks has increased, so has the number of law enforcement agencies reporting hate-crime data….

US Air Force KC-135 damage in Australia interrupts bomber training mission

MELBOURNE, Australia — A U.S. Air Force Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker was damaged Tuesday during a ground-handling incident at an Australian airport.

A tug, under operation by Australian airlines Qantas, was pushing the KC-135R aircraft from its parking bay at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport when one of the tanker’s nose landing gear doors was damaged by the tug.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the incident fractured the KC-135R’s rear nose landing gear door; its planned mission is now canceled.

A second KC-135R, which had earlier been pushed back in preparation for takeoff, was also subsequently towed back by a replacement tug.

The two KC-135R tankers, call signs LULU23 and LULU24, are from the Air Force Reserve Command’s 72nd Air Refueling Squadron, 434th Air Refueling Wing, which is based at Grissom Air Reserve Base in Indiana and arrived in Sydney earlier in the week from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam….

US to give states leeway to expand inpatient mental health

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is opening the door for states to provide more inpatient treatment for people with serious mental illness by tapping Medicaid programs.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar made the announcement Tuesday in a speech to state Medicaid directors.

The lack of inpatient treatment beds for people with serious mental illness is a common denominator among several national concerns: homelessness, police shootings, and mass violence by people with serious mental problems.

A longstanding federal law barred Medicaid from paying for treatment in facilities with more than 16 beds, to prevent “warehousing” of the mentally ill.

Azar said states will now be able to apply for waivers from that restriction, provided they’re also maintaining robust community-based treatment programs.

Advocates say results could take at least a year.

Facebook bug allowed other sites to view users' likes and interests

Facebook's privacy woes are a little murkier after it emerged a bug allowed websites to extract certain data from users' profiles, such as their interests and likes, without them knowing about it. Facebook fixed the bug a few days after Imperva security researcher Ron Masas flagged it in May, and the company told TechCrunch it hasn't seen any abuse of the vulnerability.

The company wasn't protecting its search results from cross-site request forgery, Masas found. Bad actors could have used an iFrame (which lets people embed material such as PDFs, YouTube videos or other pages within web pages) to open a Facebook tab and collect information.

Attackers could have run queries with certain graph searches, such as to find out whether you liked a page, if you took photos at a certain location or if you or your friends used specific keywords in your posts. The bug could have also allowed malicious sites to find out which of your friends liked a certain page or identified with a certain religion.

Facebook is not the only company which has faced this type of issue and it seems no one took advantage of this particular vulnerability. However, it's the kind of data that can be used to build a profile of someone for the likes of ad targeting or election profiling – we saw something similar with the Cambridge Analytica scandal. With Facebook having faced multiple privacy issues in recent times, its data slips will be under close scrutiny for the foreseeable future, even if attackers didn't exploit this particular bug.
