So Anons - Will Sen. Grassley go to Chair the Finance Committee in the new Congress and hand the Judiciary over to Lindsey Graham?

Des Moines Register: August 15, 2018

Sen. Grassley won't rule out switch from Judiciary Committee chair to Finance Committee

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said Wednesday he isn't closing the door on a switch from chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee to head of the Senate Finance Committee next year, but it's too early to speculate on what will happen.

"I am going to tell you to ask me that same question the day after the election," Grassley told Iowa reporters on his weekly teleconference call. "And not because I want to avoid your question. But it isn't even an issue until I know that we are in the majority."

Asked if he is not ruling out a possible shift to the Senate Finance Committee chairmanship, Grassley replied, "Oh, I never rule anything out."

Politico recently reported that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, is in line to take over the Senate Judiciary Committee next year, assuming Grassley leaves the post to become chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Politico said a growing number of Republican sources said it's likely Grassley will jump, leaving Graham to preside over the Judiciary Committee and possibly draft a compromise on immigration reform.

If Lindsey Graham leads the Senate Judiciary Committee next year, he would be well positioned to craft a compromise on immigration — but first he has to win Trump over.

The shift would require current Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) to swap his gavel for the Finance Committee chairmanship. And a growing number of Republican sources say it’s likely Grassley will jump, leaving Graham to preside over the powerful committee with jurisdiction on the nation’s borders.

“On immigration, there’s a deal to be had. We’ll see if we get there,” Graham said in an interview. Asked whether he’d take the Judiciary job if it fell to him, he answered: “Sure. It’d be an honor.”
