Gallup: Five Million Central Americans Want to Join Caravans to the U.S.

Five million poor Central Americans want to migrate into the United States’ communities and workplaces, according to a report by Gallup.

The caravans of economic migrants moving northwards to the U.S. border “actually represent a relatively small fragment of a much larger group of people in their own region — and around the world — who say they would like to move to the U.S. if they could,” said Gallup.

The five million number is one-in-three adults in Central America, the survey firm said. But average birth rate and family size in Central America are roughly twice as large as in the United States, so the migration of 5 million could lead to the birth of at least 5 million additional people after the migrants get jobs in the United States.

The estimate was posted by Gallup as President Donald Trump’s lawyers try to fend off lawsuits against his November plan to curb the growing use of asylum claims by economic migrants from Central America, including the migrants who are part of the caravans heading to the U.S. border.

On Tuesday, the ACLU and other elite groups who favor cheap-labor migration are asking a California judge to block Trump’s asylum-reform, anti-caravan plan.

Trump’s lawyers are expected to say his plan complies with Congress’ law by offering caravans of migrants full access to asylum courts if they apply at the border’s “ports of entry,” while also offering a limited form of asylum, dubbed “withholding from removal,” to migrants who illegally sneak into the United States.

If upheld, Trump’s “withholding of removal” fix would be a huge blow to the cartels’ labor trafficking business. It would be a blow because it would deny migrants the easy access to U.S. jobs which is needed to pay the cartels’ smuggling costs and profits.

Gallup reported:

In Gallup’s most recent global estimate, between 2015 and 2017, 15% of the world’s adults — more than 750 million people — said they would like to move to another country permanently if they could. In Central America, this percentage is one in three (33%), or about 10 million adults.

Three percent of the world’s adults — or nearly 160 million people — say they would like to move to the U.S. This includes 16% of adults from Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Costa Rica, which translates into nearly 5 million people.

For example, in Honduras, whose residents make up a large percentage of the migrant caravan, about half of adults (47%) say they would like to move to another country permanently if they could, but about 9% are planning to move in the next year — and 2% are actively preparing to do so.

Feds Drop Charges Against Jane Sanders After She Bankrupts University

Federal prosecutors dropped charges against Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane Sanders after an investigation into a land deal she spearheaded while she was the president of Burlington College.

Jane Sanders’ shady bank scheme ultimately bankrupted the university in 2016.

Politico reported:

Federal prosecutors have ended an investigation into a land deal overseen by Jane Sanders, wife of Sen. Bernie Sanders, without bringing any charges, an aide said Tuesday.

Investigators had been looking into a $10 million real estate deal that Jane Sanders led when she was president of the now-defunct Burlington College between 2004 and 2011.

“Jane Sanders has been informed that the U.S. Attorney in Vermont has closed its investigation of the Burlington College land deal and has decided not to bring charges of any kind,” Jeff Weaver, a Sanders adviser, said in a statement.

TGP previously reported the FBI was investigating Jane Sanders over a sketchy land deal she spearheaded while she was president of Burlington College, ultimately bankrupting the school.

Jane Sanders denied any wrongdoing because naturally, Socialists see nothing wrong with wasting other people’s money. Sanders also agreed to a settlement after her resignation in which she collected approximately a $200,000 severance package.

The school was founded in 1972 and was humming along until Jane Sanders came up with an elaborate bank scheme, ran it into the ground and walked away with cash in hand. Typical leftist; they destroy everything they touch.

There is a two-tiered justice system in this country–Democrats don’t have to follow the law and rarely go to jail if they break the law.

Hillary Clinton Sends Fundraising Email to Support Bill Nelson’s Recount Team

Hillary Clinton has involved herself in the Florida recount, sending out a blast email to supporters seeking donations to help pay for legal resources and support staff so that Sen. Bill Nelson has what he needs to “win this fight.”

Clinton unleashed the blast email from her Onward Together organization, a group dedicated to advancing Clinton’s mission and founded in the wake of her defeat in the 2016 presidential election.

Clinton was seeking funds for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), writing:

We need to make sure that Senator Nelson’s team has everything they need for this process, and we cannot waste a moment. Make a donation to the DSCC’s voter protection efforts while they work to make sure every vote is counted.

What we’re seeing right now is unprecedented — this is the first a full statewide recount in Florida history. It’s unbelievable that any elected official wouldn’t call for a fair and accurate count of the votes.

The DSCC is currently deploying lawyers and organizers down to Florida to make sure that Senator Nelson has whatever legal support, staff capacity, and voter protection resources he needs to win this fight — and investing in their work is the best way you can have an impact. Chip in $25 to defend Democrats like Bill Nelson.

Thank you,

Hillary

Clinton also posted the fundraising call on Twitter:

Pound Rallies As Key Cabinet Ministers Begrudgingly Back May's Brexit Plan

After nearly two years of painstaking negotiations, UK Prime Minister Theresa May appears to have finally secured a Brexit deal that has received the begrudging support of her cabinet. The pound rallied Tuesday evening, breaking above $1.30 as traders' swallowed their doubts and embraced what, if accurate, could be a groundbreaking report from the Sun's chief political correspondent, Tom Newton Dunn.

According to Dunn, Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, Environment Secretary Michael Gove, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling and Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom have all begrudgingly agreed to back May's 500-page plus revised Brexit plan after the prime minister pleaded with them to acquiesce "in the national interest."

Prepping the ground, The Sun has learned that Mrs May told the Cabinet’s regular weekly meeting [Tuesday] morning: “We will have to sit there as a Cabinet and consider what is in the national interest”.

A senior No10 source added that the PM will tell today’s showdown that the negotiation “has been pushed as far as it can go” and that the UK “cannot get any better deal than this one”.

The source added: “The PM is firmly of the view that the deal will not be improved by dragging it out any longer”.

[…]

They included Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, Environment Secretary Michael Gove, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling and Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom.

The Sun understands that none of the key players are expected to resign today, with all grudgingly agreeing to go along with her plan at least for now.

The news sent the pound rallying Tuesday evening: GBP/USD climbed as much as 0.5% to 1.3036, breaching its 55-day moving average and nearing its Nov. 7 high of 1.3175.

Trump Taps Indian Daughter Of Immigrants To Succeed Kavanaugh On DC Circuit

President Donald Trump will nominate Neomi Rao, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Speaking at the White House’s Diwali celebration Tuesday, the president said he was slated to make the announcement on Wednesday, but was so delighted by the event he spontaneously decided to reveal Rao’s pending nomination. Diwali is a Hindu religious festival and Rao is Indian-American.

“I just nominated Neomi to be on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the seat of Justice Brett Kavanaugh,” Trump said. “We were going to announce that tomorrow, then I said, ‘You know, here we are, Neomi, we’re never going to do better than this right?'”

“Thank you very much, Mr. President, for the confidence you’ve shown in me,” Rao replied. “I greatly appreciate it.”

The D.C. Circuit seat in question was vacated following Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Rao, the daughter of Indian immigrants, has served as the Trump administration’s deregulatory czar since 2017, and is widely considered a leading authority on agency law. Before re-entering the White House, she founded and led the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, increasingly a bastion of conservative jurisprudence.

The Center seeks to advance and curate debates over the scope of federal regulatory authority, increasingly a priority for conservative legal scholars and activists who fear agency power has grown such that the regulatory bureaucracy is now its own unaccountable branch of government.

Rao has led the Trump administration to meaningful successes in its vaunted regulatory rollback. She crowed about the administration’s achievements in a Washington Post op-ed on Oct. 21.

“The benefits of deregulation are felt far and wide, from lower consumer prices to more jobs and, in the long run, improvements to quality of life from access to innovative products and services,” Rao wrote. “Eliminating unnecessary and duplicative red tape has helped the Trump administration achieve the lowest unemployment rates in nearly 50 years and dramatic economic growth for our country.”

Conservative legal commentators praised Trump’s pick, as they did when Rao was first named OIRA administrator.

“Ms. Rao’s extensive experience in the field of administrative law will be an asset on the D.C. Circuit, which reviews on appeal the majority of litigation involving the various federal agencies,” said Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the conservative Judicial Crisis Network. “Ms. Rao is also the seventh of President Trump’s court of appeals nominees to have clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas. I look forward to seeing her confirmed.”

NY Taxpayers To Pay $61,000 Per Amazon HQ2 Job

New York taxpayers will shell out $61,000 for each of the 25,000 jobs to be created over the next 15 years from Amazon's new split-model HQ2 plan. This works out to nearly double the $32,000 in tax incentives that Virginia residents will shoulder for the same number of jobs, according to Bloomberg.

In the long run, the public expense, along with the number of jobs created, would likely be even higher in Long Island City - as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the state and city will spend as much as $3 billion to secure as many as 40,000 jobs in what he described at a Tuesday press conference as "the largest economic development initiative that has ever been done by the city or the state."

Not everyone is happy with New York's current plan to offer performance-based direct incentives of $1.525 billion and a cash grant of $325 million based on the square footage of buildings Amazon occupies over the next 10 years.

"Amazon is one of the richest companies in the world…I also don’t understand why a company as rich as Amazon would need nearly $2 billion in public money for its expansion plans at a time when New York desperately needs money for affordable housing, transportation, infrastructure and education," said New York City Council speaker Corey Johnson.

Virginia, meanwhile, will pay less to boost the Northern Virginia region economically in terms of billions of capital which will be needed to boost private investments around the new HQ2 - which will include office, residential and retail developments.

The northern Virginia region has been adding about 40,000 jobs a year, so accommodating the new Amazon workforce won’t be a problem, according to Victor Hoskins, the head of Arlington County’s Economic Development department. There is plenty of capacity in the area and in the transit system to accommodate the new workers, Hoskins said in an interview Tuesday. -Bloomberg

According to Greg LeRoy, executive director of Washington-based Good Jobs First - which tracks government spending on businesses, says that Virginia is getting a good deal according to Bloomberg.

"If that’s all the money Virginia is giving, it’s not obscene," said LeRoy. "It’s way below our megadeal threshold."

New York has always been among the most generous in terms of giving tax breaks to attract jobs, LeRoy added. New Jersey, Maryland and Missouri were all willing to shell out about $140,000 per job to bring the online retailer Amazon.com Inc. to their states.

In New York, Amazon would spend about $2.5 billion to create an 8.5 million square foot campus on the East River waterfront facing Manhattan from Long Island City, a location close to both LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports, with access to Manhattan via a 10-minute ferry ride and several subway lines. -Bloomberg

According to Cuomo, New York state will receive a 9-to-1 return on nearly $3 billion worth of incentives, and will see revenue totaling $27.5 billion over ten years. "That is the highest rate of return for an incentive program that the state has ever offered," said Cuomo.

In terms of overall dollar value on the package, New York State's HQ2 offering is the 14th largest deal since 1976, according to Amazon's figures, while Virginia's is the 26th - ranking just above the $750 million deal Solar City received to build a Buffalo factory in 2014.

The Dramatic Situation in Hodeidah, Yemen: Relentless Air Strikes, The Suffering of Millions

Quote from Mohamed Abdi, NRC’s country director in Yemen:

“Hodeidah is at risk of being obliterated. We warned the international community that an offensive on the city was coming, and it has. We warned that the violence would see another half a million people flee their homes, and it did.

“We are now warning that by allowing this to go on, parties to the conflict and their international backers will be responsible for the death, injury and suffering of millions of people.

“The humanitarian cost of this war is almost $3 billion this year alone but the cost to humanity completely inestimable. Senseless attacks on civilians, evidence of a starving population and desperate pleas from humanitarian witnesses have done little more than elicit condolences from an international community that could have stepped on the brakes long ago. The lack of action from the United States and the United Kingdom, in particular, is utterly unconscionable.”

Latest updates:

Eight days into a renewed offensive on Hodeidah city, civilians are reporting relentless airstrikes, low-flying jets and Apache helicopters, mortars and missiles on the outskirts of the town and within 5km of the nation’s main port.

At least 18 civilians were killed and another 17 injured by airstrikes, artillery shelling and landmines in Hodeidah and Hajjah governorates on Wednesday this week alone, following several days of massive strikes and shelling on farms, factories, trucks, houses and markets across the governorates.

Reports from earlier in the week that Ansarallah fighters have taken up position on the rooftop of a hospital on Hodeidah city’s outskirts were followed today by reports of three airstrikes on the facility, damaging hospital buildings and prompting its evacuation, placing patients at critical risk.

As of the last week of October, the International Organisation for Migration had recorded more than 545,000 people have fled their homes since 1 June this year, equating to almost 3,700 each day. Of this population, 83% come from Hodeidah governorate and a further 14% from Hajjah to the north of Hodeidah.

There is now only one viable overland route from Hodeidah city to Sana’a, and a very high risk that further aerial or land attacks on roads or bridges could sever access roads between the cities entirely, cutting the last remaining supply route for food, fuel and medicine to many of the estimated 20 million Yemenis who depend on imports through Hodeidah to meet their basic needs.

Five main roads in Hodeidah governorate have now been closed or cut off by fighting, and a further two highly restricted.

Humanitarian organisations continue to experience obstructions to the delivery of critical aid to people in dire need across Hodeidah, Hajjah and other severely-affected governorates, including cholera-prevention activities.

Humanitarian agencies continue to be denied visas for international staff and experience innumerable obstacles obtaining approval from authorities to travel and deliver aid within Yemen, even when providing lifesaving services, limiting our ability to reach people in desperate need.

The Survival Minimum Expenditure Basket (SMEB), accounting for food, water, hygiene and cooking fuel needs was revised to YER 73,000 (USD 104) per month last week, reflecting increased costs of more than 40% since July this year.

Inflation on the price of essential items, combined with the rapid depreciation of the Yemeni riyal and lack of access to income are among the key factors driving Yemen’s worsening hunger crisis.

The International Bank of Yemen recorded an exchange rate of 680 yesterday, an appreciation of 8% since the end of October, but still a dramatic devaluation from the rate of 215 at which the riyal traded before the crisis.
