Israel’s Immigration Minister resigns shortly after Lieberman

Israeli Minister of Immigration and Absorption Sofa Landver, a member of the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party, has announced her resignation following the decision of the party leader and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman to resign, party press secretary Lyudmila Lagush told Sputnik.

According to Lagush, the faction of the party in Knesset supports Lieberman’s decision to quit the government and thus leaves the ruling coalition headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and goes into opposition.

“Sofa Landver followed the leader of Yisrael Beiteinu in the intention to leave the ministerial post,” Lagush said.

In accordance with the procedure, the minister’s resignation statement must come into force within 48 hours, Lagush added.

Landver headed the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption for over nine years and initiated numerous programs and bills aimed at improving the lives of repatriates.

Earlier in the day, Lieberman announced his resignation over disagreements with other members of the cabinet regarding the cessation of hostilities against Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.

The resignation of Lieberman has not deprived Netanyahu of the parliamentary majority’s support, but reduced the ruling coalition to 61 seats in the 120-seat Knesset…

In a rare move, First Lady Melania Trump has publically called for the firing of the president’s deputy national security adviser, Mira Ricardel.

In a statement, the first lady’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham, said: “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she [Ricardel] no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House.”

Historically, it is unusual for the first lady to publicly call for the firing of an administration official, especially so since Melania Trump has played a quiet role within the administration herself.

Their efforts are part of the preparations that U.S. troops are aiding U.S. Customs and Border Protection with ahead of a possible arrival of members from the migrant caravan trekking north through Mexico hoping to seek asylum in the U.S.

While a large portion of the caravan intends to try and make entry through the Southern California border troops in South Texas are still preparing.
