85% of Tampons Contain Monsanto’s ‘Cancer Causing’ Glyphosate

Glyphosate, a widely popular herbicide that has been linked to cancer by the World Health Organization’s cancer research arm, was detected in 85 percent of cotton hygiene products tested in a preliminary study from researchers at the University of La Plata in Argentina.

Sixty-two percent of the samples also tested positive for AMPA (or aminomethylphosphonic acid), a derivative of glyphosate.

“Eighty-five percent of all samples tested positive for glyphosate and 62 percent for AMPA, which is the environmental metabolite, but in the case of cotton and sterile cotton gauze the figure was 100 percent,” Dr. Damian Marino, the study’s head researcher.

According to Revolution News, the samples—which included gauze, swabs, wipes and feminine care products such as tampons and sanitary pads—were purchased from local supermarkets and pharmacies in the La Plata area.

The findings were presented last week at the third national congress of Doctors of Fumigated Towns in Buenos Aires.

“Eighty-five percent of all samples tested positive for glyphosate and 62 percent for AMPA, which is the environmental metabolite, but in the case of cotton and sterile cotton gauze the figure was 100 percent,” Dr. Damian Marino, the study’s head researcher, told the Télam news agency (via RT.com). An English translation of the Télam report can be read here.

“In terms of concentrations, what we saw is that in raw cotton AMPA dominates (39 parts per billion, or PPB, and 13 PPB of glyphosate), while the gauze is absent of AMPA, but contained glyphosate at 17 PPB,” said Dr. Marino.

Dr. Medardo Avila Vazquez, president of the congress, said (via RT.com) that the result of this research is “very serious when you use cotton or gauze to heal wounds or for personal hygiene uses, thinking they are sterilized products, and the results show that they are contaminated with a probably carcinogenic substance.

“Most of the cotton production in the country is GM [genetically modified] cotton that is resistant to glyphosate. It is sprayed when the bud is open and the glyphosate is condensed and goes straight into the product.”

Glyphosate is the key ingredient in biotech giant Monsanto’s Roundup, the most popular weedkiller in the U.S. “Roundup Ready” cotton, soy and corn crops have been genetically modified to withstand application of the herbicide.

In fact, farmers sprayed 2.6 billion pounds of Monsanto’s glyphosate herbicide on U.S. agricultural land between 1992 and 2012, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

TGP Exclusive: Senator Rand Paul to Force Vote Against the War in Yemen

Senator Rand Paul secured a vote to proceed to S.J. Res. 65, his resolution of disapproval to block the sale of offensive weapons and support to Bahrain, a member of the Saudi-led coalition waging a devastating war in Yemen that has killed thousands of innocent civilians and left millions of Yemenis on the edge of famine.

According to a press release from Senator Paul’s office, Senate is expected to vote early Thursday afternoon.

The Gateway Pundit has obtained a copy of the “Dear Colleague” letter than Senator Paul sent out on Wednesday, urging other senators to join the effort.

The letter reads as follows:

“Dear Colleague:

Tomorrow the Senate will vote to proceed to S.J. Res. 65, a resolution of disapproval that would block the sale of offensive weapons to Bahrain, a member of the Saudi-led coalition that has devastated Yemen. This vote is about more than weapons; this is a vote against the war in Yemen. This vote will send a message to the Saudi coalition that the Senate will not support further destruction in Yemen, and that further arms sales to participants in the Saudi coalition will be restricted until the war in Yemen is ended. Bahrain itself has been an ally of the United States in the past, and this would not be an open-ended ban on arms sales to Bahrain. Rather, this is a one-time action limited to Bahrain’s proposed purchase of rockets. Blocking this sale is a small step that could nonetheless serve as the beginning of the end for the war in Yemen.

Last week, the United States military ceased operations to refuel Saudi combat aircraft engaged in the war in Yemen. This is a positive first step in our disengagement from the conflict. However, according to Secretary of Defense Mattis, the United States was only providing this kind of support for twenty percent of their aircraft. Additionally, the Saudi Press Agency reported that the Saudi government itself requested an end to this support because they had developed their own capability and no longer needed American support. This means that our effort to withhold refueling support will not apply sufficient pressure to change the conduct of the war in Yemen. We must take additional actions, and this resolution is an important first step.

As the humanitarian disaster in Yemen has worsened, a growing chorus of international voices have called for the end of the war in Yemen. In December 2017, then-Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tim Lenderking said, “…there is no military solution to end the war in Yemen.” This was reiterated this August by Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, the Permanent Representative to the UN of Kuwait—another Saudi coalition member. Secretary of State Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mattis also made this conclusion clear in October of this year. Secretary Pompeo is on the record: “The United States calls on all parties to support UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths in finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Yemen. The time is now for the cessation of hostilities.” Similarly, Secretary Mattis said on the same day: “Thirty days from now we want to see everybody around a peace table based on a ceasefire […] to get them together in Sweden and end this war.”

The world has accepted the inescapable conclusion that the war in Yemen must end. Tomorrow, the Senate can take an important step toward that end, and I hope that you will join me in voting in favor of S.J. Res. 65.

Sincerely,

Senator Rand Paul”

Senator Paul has led multiple bipartisan efforts to stand against U.S. involvement in the war in Yemen by blocking arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

Per the Arms Export Control Act of 1976, a senator can force a vote on an arms sale.

Senator Paul said in a press release, “This vote is about more than yet another arms sale. The Senate has a chance to stand up for innocent life, speak out against a humanitarian tragedy that is getting worse by the day, and demonstrate it will not support further destruction in Yemen.”

GOP Lawmakers Shun Voters, Choose Kevin McCarthy as Minority Leader Over Jim Jordan

The GOP elite shunned voters Wednesday and chose Kevin McCarthy as House Minority Leader over conservative favorite Jim Jordan.

McCarthy had the backing of the GOP elite and outgoing RINO House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Jim Jordan had the backing of his fellow members and Trump supporters in the Freedom Caucus.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) was chosen to be GOP conference Chairwoman.

Fox News reported:

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., beat back a challenge from dark horse candidate, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Wednesday for the role of House minority leader, with Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., nabbing the title of GOP conference chairman.

During a closed-door session with House Republicans, the California lawmaker took a decisive victory against Jordan, bringing in 159 votes to the Ohio representative’s 43 votes.

McCarthy was initially elected to the House in 2006 and has served as the House majority leader since 2014. Jordan is a prominent member of the House Freedom Caucus and an ally of President Trump.

The Never Trumpers and GOP elite always make sure they keep their power in Congress.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Ballot box disputes: Democrats use legal action when losing races, but want results untouched when they lead

Democrats in at least five hotly contested races are either trying to preserve the results – when they are winning – or taking additional measures and legal actions to count more ballots if they find themselves trailing in the election.

In Georgia’s governor race, Democrat Stacey Abrams filed a lawsuit to stop election officials from certifying county vote totals and restore at least 1,095 votes that weren’t counted that could force a runoff election in the state.

Republican Brian Kemp has already claimed victory and slammed Abrams for clinging to the hope of winning the election. He said her victory was “mathematically impossible” because he’s leading by roughly 59,000 ballots.

But Abrams’ campaign remains convinced they could close the gap, saying thousands of ballots may not have been counted. She previously accused Kemp, who was Georgia’s secretary of state, of suppressing the vote.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, claimed Wednesday that if Abrams doesn't win the race, then Republicans "stole it."

Lauren Groh-Wargo, the Democrat’s campaign manager, tweeted on Tuesday that Abrams received 84.6 percent of the 2,738 votes reported Tuesday, noting that the margin to force a runoff election has narrowed to 18,617.

A judge will decide on Wednesday whether to rule in favor of Abrams, which would open a potential path to a runoff election, or effectively declare Kemp the victor.

Precedent Set as Judge Orders Amazon to Release Echo Recordings—Here’s How to Delete Them

Amazon’s Echo built upon the voice search capability of Android’s ‘Ok Google’ and Apple’s Siri and turned it into a device that is capable of doing everything from answering questions to turning on your on your air conditioner. However, like all beneficial technology, when the government gets involved, this useful household item is converted into a spying machine for the surveillance state.

In a seemingly unprecedented case out of Bentonville, Arkansas, the latest example of how police can use your technology against you is coming to fruition.

In 2016, investigators in Bentonville filed search warrants with Amazon, requesting the recordings made on a man’s Echo device between November 21 and November 22, 2015. The recordings belong to James A. Bates, who was charged with murder after a man was strangled to death in a hot tub.

Now, a judge has ordered Amazon to turn over the recordings.

According to CNET, while investigating, police noticed the Echo in the kitchen and pointed out that the music playing in the home could have been voice activated through the device. While the Echo records only after hearing the wake word, police are hoping that ambient noise or background chatter could have accidentally triggered the device, leading to some more clues.

“It is believed that these records are retained by Amazon.com and that they are evidence related to the case under investigation,” police wrote in the search warrant.

According to court documents, Amazon officials said the company won’t release any information until a valid legal demand has been properly served.

However, according to police, Amazon may not have to send over the files for cops to get them. According to the warrant, police believe they can tap into the hardware on the Echo, which could “potentially include time stamps, audio files or other data,” reports CNET.

On top of Bates’ Echo, police have also attempted to break into his phone, but were unsuccessful due to his password. In response to the delay in investigation caused by Amazon not sending the recordings and the phone password, the police department issued the following ominous response within the warrant.

“Our agency now has the ability to utilize data extraction methods that negate the need for passcodes and efforts to search Victor and Bates’ devices will continue upon issuance of this warrant.”

‘Costs Us Nothing’: New York Gov. Cuomo Downplays $1.5 Billion Payout to Amazon

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo downplayed the $1.5 billion in tax credits and $1.2 billion in tax breaks given to Amazon in return for the company basing its new headquarters in New York City, claiming it, “Cost us nothing.”

“This is a big money-maker for us — costs us nothing, nada, niente,” claimed Cuomo during a press conference. “We make money doing this.”

Despite attempting to downplay the deal, Amazon is reportedly receiving “$2.5 billion in taxpayer subsidies,” including “$1.525 billion in tax credits and construction grants,” and “$1.28 billion in tax breaks.”

Amazon chose to split its new headquarters between New York City and Arlington, Virginia, this week, after receiving hundreds of offers and incentives from cities and counties in North America which sought to entice Amazon into building its new headquarters in the area.

The decision has been criticized by figures across the political spectrum, from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“Hate to admit it, but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a very good point,” declared Carlson. “That’s the only time I’ve ever agreed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… But it’s hard to argue with the internal logic. The richest man in the world just got $2 billion in taxpayer subsidies. How does that work?”
