Republicans ‘stole’ Georgia election if Abrams doesn’t win, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown says

A Democratic senator from Ohio has decided that if the Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia isn’t declared the winner, it means Republicans “stole” the election, according to The Hill.

“If Stacey Abrams doesn’t win in Georgia, they stole it,” Brown said. “It’s clear. They can’t win elections fairly. They win elections by redistricting and reapportionment and voter suppression and all the ways they try to scare people, particularly people of color.”

What he’s talking about: Abrams, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, has refused to concede the race against former Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, the Republican candidate, even though Kemp holds a narrow lead. The race could head to a recount.

The race has been bogged down in a legal dispute over provisional ballots and about the validity of some ballots that had omitted or incorrect birthdates.

Kemp has been accused by Democrats of voter suppression for removing more than 100,000 voters from the rolls for inactivity in previous elections. And Abrams was scrutinized for a comment in which she seemed to indicate that both “those who are documented and undocumented” should contribute to the “blue wave.”

Why Sherrod Brown of Ohio is talking about Georgia: Brown has long been considered a potential 2020 presidential candidate, and now that midterm elections are (somewhat) over, it’s time for he and others to begin positioning themselves on the national stage.

The Georgia gubernatorial election, as well as the Florida Senate and gubernatorial elections, have become issues of national interest as Democrats accuse Republicans of trying to prevent all votes from being counted, and Republicans accuse Democrats of attempting to disregard election rules in order to win.

Brown’s implication that Republicans regularly attempt to suppress the vote of minorities is a targeted comment about a race in which Abrams was seeking to become the first black woman to be elected governor.

Brown was considered as a running mate for Hillary Clinton in 2016, but Democrats ultimately did not feel comfortable removing him from the Senate and allowing Republican Gov. John Kasich to appoint his replacement.

Hillary Clinton Doubts Fairness of Georgia’s Governor Election

Former US Secretary of State and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that Democrat Stacy Abrams would be governor-elect of Georgia if the elections were fair.

“If she had a fair election, she already would have won,” Clinton said, referring to the contested gubernatorial fight between Abrams and the Republican candidate, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

Clinton made her latest assessment of election legitimacy in America in a speech at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs of the University of Texas while receiving the institution’s “In the Arena Award” on Tuesday.

Abrams, who would become the state's first black female governor if elected, ended up being defeated by her Republican rival, who secured over 50 percent of votes en route to a victory. According to the official results, Kemp defeated Abrams by a 50.3 to 48.7 percent margin. However, Abrams and civil rights groups claimed Kemp might have suppressed voters after an Associated Press investigation found that Kemp's office had placed 53,000 voter registration applicants in limbo. Abrams filed a lawsuit earlier on Sunday trying to force a runoff election.

Kemp's campaign responded by stating that “Abrams and her radical backers have moved from desperation to delusion.” The Republican’s campaign further alleged that Abrams and her supporters were conspiring to "steal" the governor's race, and again called on Abrams to concede the elections.

“Stacey Abrams and her radical backers will stop at nothing to undermine democracy and attempt to steal this election to be Georgia's next governor," said Cody Hall, Kemp's press secretary.

After the election and under pressure from Democrats, Kemp agreed to resign as Georgia secretary of state and removed himself from any role in overseeing the vote count.

The results of the election will not be certified by the state’s election authorities until Friday afternoon, due to a federal judge’s decision that some absentee ballots should not have been rejected because the documents were not fully completed by voters.

Revealed: The gene-edited food hitting supermarkets soon, from mold-resistant bananas to disease-proof oranges and fat-free beans

Genetically modified foods was mixed with another species' DNA

Gene-edited food is more precise, using CRISPR to avoid side effects

Scientists are starting with editing foods to make them heart-healthy by eliminating trans fats

Then they hope to make foods resistant to diseases and mold

The next generation of biotech food is headed for the grocery aisles, and first up may be salad dressings or granola bars made with soybean oil genetically tweaked to be good for your heart.

By early next year, the first foods from plants or animals that had their DNA 'edited' are expected to begin selling.

It's a different technology than today's controversial 'genetically modified' foods, more like faster breeding that promises to boost nutrition, spur crop growth, and make farm animals hardier and fruits and vegetables last longer.

The US National Academy of Sciences has declared gene editing one of the breakthroughs needed to improve food production so the world can feed billions more people amid a changing climate.

Yet governments are wrestling with how to regulate this powerful new tool.

Saudi-led Coalition Officially Halts Attack On Al-Hudaydah

On November 14, a source in the Saudi-backed wing of the Yemeni military told the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV that the Saudi-led coalition has halted its attack on the Houthi-held city of al-Hudaydah on the western Yemeni coast.

“The military operation will be resumed and will not stop until the full liberation of al-Hudaydah, its strategic port and the entire western coast of Yemen,” the source added.

According to the source’ claims, the coalition took this decision to allow humanitarian organizations to evacuate its employees and wounded people from the city and in order to open a humanitarian route for the civilians, who want to leave.

Contrary to these claims, observers believe that the Saudi-led coalition halted the operation in order to reorganize its forces after suffering from a series of setbacks. According to the Houthis, 1224 fighters of the coalition and its proxies have been killed and injured on the western Yemeni coast since the beginning of November.

This temporary ceasefire will likely make the Saudi-led coalition mission harder as it will allow the Houthis and their local allies to fortify their positions and resupply their fighters inside al-Hudaydah.
