Houses are flammable. Not to mention a lot of these cherry picked photos exclude the literal thousands of hectacres of woodland that is ash. Fires in other places skip, jump, and move around. Until you've seen red hot ash fall in your backyard, it's difficult to understand these things.

 

Brush fires are not the same as forest fires. When most people see these things, they think brush fires. They dont' work the same, and you never know where/when they'll expand.
