The pronunciation isn't as important as knowing that the ultra-corrupt Broward Sheriff's Department is in charge of all security at not only the county airport (Fort Lauderdale) but at Port Everglades, which has expanded so much in the last 10 years that it's bigger than the Port of Miami. Aggressive, multibillion-$ expansion at the port, with channel dredging for supersize cargo vessels and the additional of multiple cranes for container handling. Who got all the funding for that approved? None other than Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
Interesting how the US Coast Guard seized that massive haul of cocaine right offshore of Broward County just the other day, isn't it?
Also interesting how many retired C_A live in South Florida. Former Agency Director Porter Goss and just a couple of his pals basically morphed Sanibel & Captiva Islands into their own little kingdom:

Then there's the matter of that Dept of Justice attorney who'd been sent to Broward County and washed up on the beach with a gunshot wound: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/broward/article152629589.html
All that said, I have to recommend Sanibel Island as a vacation spot. Those guys did a hell of a job setting that place up, because it is fan-damn-tastic. Best seashell-finding in the United States.
