Germany to make Turkish migrant Vice President of Intelligence Service
Sinan Selen, a lawyer born in Istanbul, is to become the next Vice President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
He will be the first top official with a migrant background in the German intelligence services. It is not completely clear yet when Selen will assume his new position.
Maassen, the former President of that office, was just forced into retirement in a controversial decision after criticising Merkel and the alleged radical left-wing element within her coalition partner, the SPD.
Selen previously worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2006 and was in charge of an investigation into two radical Lebanese Islamist, who planned a terror attack on a train.
The only reason for the failure of the terror plot was a technical problem with the explosives. He dedicated himself to working with and advising family members of radicalised Muslims.

With the victory of Jared Golden, an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, a total of 11 Democrats with military or intelligence backgrounds have won Republican-held seats in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections.
The military-intelligence apparatus accounts for the largest number of victorious Democratic challengers in Republican districts, more than lawyers (9), state and local government officials (7), businessmen/wealthy individuals (7), or others (8).
Besides Golden—who enlisted in the Marines after 9/11 and spent four years as an infantryman, deploying to Afghanistan in 2004 and to Iraq in 2005–2006, the only rank-and-file soldier in the group—the military-intelligence Democrats who won congressional seats include:
Jason Crow, Colorado 6th District, veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, leading a paratrooper platoon during the invasion of Iraq,

First Step In Official Audit Of Nov. 6 Election Begins
San Francisco's elections department on Saturday randomly chose 1 percent of the precincts used in the Nov. 6 election to manually count ballot cards to compare against results from voting equipment.
On Monday, the Department of Elections will begin the manual count of ballot cards, working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the department's warehouse on Pier 48. The manual count will continue until the tally is completed.
The manual count is part of the official canvass period in which the department conducts an internal election audit to ensure the election results are accurate.
In the interests of transparency, the manual tally is open to public observation, either in person or via a livestream of the process.
