As a prelude to the commemoration of the 215th anniversary of the Battle of Vertière this Sunday, November 18, Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant, addressed the Nation live, on the State television.
Message to the Nation by Prime Minister Céant :
"Haitians,
My compatriots from the 10 geographical departments of the country,
My compatriots in the diaspora,
Throughout the history of humanity, it is the decisions of men and women who take their responsibilities, which determine every road and road that peoples and nations take.
It has been 215 years since our ancestors made a historic step in the liberation of Haiti from slavery on November 18, 1803, in a great battle that took place in Vertières.
This date of November 18 reminds us many things. It reminds us that November 18, 1803 was made possible because the Negroes and mulattoes in the colony made one. Dessaline and Pétion got along.
It reminds us that our ancestors were forced to take a lot of big decisions, putting aside their personal interests, to look at their future in the same direction, towards the road to freedom, that freedom that after sprang up on all Latin America.
Haitians,
My compatriots from all over the country,
In the time of the Battle of Vertières, the enemy was the colonists, a foreign army, an army that came to put chains. Today, the enemy is banditry, corruption and impunity, hunger and unemployment, it is the services that the population can not receive, it is political instability.
These enemies are very important, how can we attack them to win the battle? It is in the dialogue, with each other, without lies, in the exchange of ideas between all the children of the country, in the union that we will create the conditions to attack the problems.
It's not in the violence or destruction of property of our brothers and sisters, it is not in the destruction of companies that give work, it is not by burning tires in the street where cars pass, where students pass to go to school, that we will solve the problems.
Haitians,
We ask each person, each actor to make efforts, so that November 18, 2018 takes place in Peace.
The Government asks all citizens to remain calm. The police have instructions to enforce the law everywhere, the demonstrations must be done in order, the police are there to protect, accompany, supervise everyone.
But wherever there are people who break the law, the police will put order in the mess.
We are building a State where justice is no different, where no one does his own justice, that's how the rule of law works.
My compatriots,
In the sense of the mandate that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Jovenel Moïse confided to me, I decided, I made the personal commitment to take my pilgrim's staff to meet all the sectors of national life in the framework of dialogue that leads us directly into living together, to live for each other, never one without the other.
Let us unite in the same spirit as Vertières for stability and development.
Long live Haiti !
Long live our country which needs our union, of solidarity, of fraternity so that we can together take other ways to give a chance to the country. So that children do not eat in the garbage anymore, so that all children go to school, so that people find work. Let's stop arguing with each other.
Let's unite, let's stand next to each other to fight against all the old plagues that put the country in the current situation.
Long live Haiti, our Haiti"
Will Moïse go to Vertières this 18th of November ?
In addition, according to the Eddy Jackson Alexis Secretary of State for Communication "The President of the Republic, HE Mr. Jovenel Moses will make a floral offering in honor of the Heroes of Independence this Sunday, November 18 at the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon ( MUPANAH) at 8:00 am He will be accompanied by Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant and members of the government. "
However, no official confirmation on the official website of the Ministry of Communication or the twitter account of President Moïse confirms that it will be present in the North to greet the memory of the Emperor in the middle of the population in Vertières, will he go or not, given the explosive socio-political context and the risk of significant social movements ? The answer in the coming hours…
