I think it is more likely that some among us are rising to the challenge, getting involved in ORGANIZING a group to monitor the work of elected politician, and report on that work. This, fundamentally, is what journalism should be. There are working examples of this such as Judicial Watch but in any sector of human activity, you need diversity, you need competition, you need well established players and startups with new ideas. So much that is going on in our society, including journalism, was part of an orchestrated move towards monopoly, towards the Communist Central Committee model of society. This was a sickness that needed to be stopped and to be reversed. Here on this board (and in the much larger group of OBSERVERS of this board) we woke up, saw that the drive to monopoly was bad, and began the fight to slow it down and stop it. But our work is just the beginning. Making lots of noise and celebrating chaos in that process, is needed to wake people up. But this is not the be all and end all. There must be follow through. Yes, it is NOT enough to just sit at your computer and follow this board. We must all FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT and that means get out out the house and participate in society and help to kick start groups playing the game of politics. And we must go beyond that as well.
Most importantly, those calling for us to just wait and see what Trump and team do, have missed the point. An essential component of the game of politics is for the people to demand action from the government. Publicly and openly. We used to do that with letters to the editor. Then came demonstrations and protests and petitions. All of these mechanisms are flawed and at risk of being captured by groups who wish to harm society. I believe that the solution is the LOBBY GROUP. Like Justice Watch, it would be a group of citizens that lobbies government. Ultimately we should make corporate lobbying illegal, and citizen lobby groups should replace them in the halls of power. These groups would use polling to measure the will of the people and then communicate that will to the elected politicians. The current state of the art of polling is corrupt. It is done largely in secret. We need to start alternate polling using open public techniques and publish findings on a regular basis.
