Shenzhen THE city’s education bureau recently said that it is planning to install facial recognition systems at public schools to ensure campus safety, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The authority has already examined and upgraded 51 on-campus surveillance systems, as well as added 1,623 cameras at schools this year.
The facial recognition systems are expected to be installed after evaluations of similar systems used in public places, like the airport and checkpoints, come out, said the bureau.
Currently, all public schools and kindergartens in the city are equipped with nearly 1,000 security staffers. A total of 586 cameras have been installed at entrances of the schools and kindergartens. The rest of the cameras will also be upgraded.
According to the education authority, they are now working with the public security bureau to further improve smart surveillance systems on campus and will gradually connect the surveillance systems at schools to the public security bureau’s unified network to prevent emergencies and accidents.
So far, 40 schools in Yantian District and the Lixiang School in Nanshan District have connected their surveillance systems to the police’s network.mulls face recognition systems at public schools
