Excellent point, anon. Think about so-called "classic rock." Suppose you wanted to order your life so that you never heard a classic rock song again, just because.

You couldn't go shopping, couldn't work in most buildings, couldn't go to an airport, train or bus station, couldn't attend pretty much any public function. These same 200 or so songs are played, usually at moderate levels and therefore just out of conscious attention, although we hear them. Observe people sometimes singing along with them completely unaware that they are doing so. The sound systems and commercial licensing are not cheap, and yet the are everywhere.

Cui bono?
