Outside an AT&T news reporter said there underground vault fire with some kind of container was some kind of liquid
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - An explosion and a fire knocked out power in Downtown Bakersfield, causing traffic delays and confusion in the area.
The explosion and fire were reported just before 5 p.m. The power outage took down KGET's broadcast signal for about a half hour Tuesday.
PG&E said the power outage affected over 850 customers Tuesday night.
A large plume of smoke was visible in Downtown Bakersfield in the direction of the AT&T building across from Dagny's Coffee Shop at 21st and Eye streets.
Bakersfield firefighters were on scene and worked on a fire located in an underground vault at 21st and Eye streets, right outside the AT&T building.
Fire officials said it's possible an oil used for the transformer in the vault was what exploded.
Meanwhile, PG&E is expecting to have power restored by 10:15 p.m.
Because of the outage, classes at the Weill Institute were canceled Tuesday night, but are scheduled to resume Nov. 21.

For more than 15 hours on Monday, people from organisations all over the world, including the UK parliament, were unable to login to their email accounts or anything else hosted on Office 365, Microsoft’s cloud computing service. And, worryingly, panic ensued.
There are more than 120 million Office 365 business users, and with more than 80 per cent of Fortune 500 companies using Microsoft’s cloud services, the impact of the outage was widespread. The problem won’t have affected all users, however, only those with MFA switched on who were not already logged in.
