SYRIA UPDATE

Over 2000 displaced Syrians return via Nassib border crossing

Nassib crossing received 2380 Syrian citizens who did not have official documents but who carried temporary passage tickets that the Syrian embassy in Jordan granted to them to facilitate their return.

Mikdad: Israel must be obliged to join WMD non-proliferation agreements

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad said that Syria condemns in the strongest terms any use of chemical weapons anywhere, by anyone and under any circumstance.

Mikdad affirmed that the theories adopted by some countries based on spreading chaos and the policies to change the regimes by force led to the expansion of the terrorism phenomenon in the world.

These countries, he added, did not like the state of security and stability in Syria, which led them to push their tools and mercenaries to destabilize the country by fabricating scenarios on the use of chemical materials against civilians aimed at distorting the image of the Syrian state.

PM Khamis during meeting with Jordanian parliamentary delegation: Parliamentarians have important role in unveiling truth about war against Syria

Khamis said that Syria’s victory over terrorism is a ‘safety valve’ for the Arab nation, underlining the role of parliamentarians in exposing the reality of the war that targeted Syria with the aim of altering its positions in support of the Arab causes, on top of which is the Palestinian cause.

Syrian Army Strikes Back: Ceasefire Violations In Aleppo Countryside

The terrorists’ mortar attack caused material damage, however no civilians were injured,” the SANA’s reporter in Aleppo said.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) retaliated to this new violation of the Russian-Turkish deconfliction agreement right away and shelled several positions of HTS north and west of Aleppo. A source in the army told SouthFront that the shelling was heavier than usual.

Turkish, Russian Defense Chiefs Discuss Situation In Syria’s Idlib

“We are glad to welcome you to Sochi. We had to invite you, because the situation in Syria requires our immediate decision and discussion of the urgent issues. The dynamics we have gained after signing the documents on Idlib in Sochi needs to be maintained to tackle the remaining issues without losing momentum,” Shoigu said.

Syrian Army Seizes More US-Supplied Weapons Abandoned By Militants In Damascus And Al-Quneitra

“As a result of our cooperation with the locals and the reconciliation committees in Damascus countryside and al-Quneitra countryside, we recovered loads of weapons and ammunition,” an SAA officer told the Syrian News TV. The weapons caches contained two Bulgarian-made Fagot anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), a Bulgarian-made Konkurs ATGM, assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, mortar shells, mines, ammunition of different calibers and two satellite communication systems. Ten stolen vehicles were also recovered.

Last year, the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) released a detailed report on how the U.S. bought loads of weapons, including Fagot and Konkurs ATGMs, from Bulgaria in order to supply them to its proxies in Syria. A large part of these weapons found its way to the terrorist groups like ISIS and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which continue to use them to this day.

Mexico to deport caravan migrants arrested in Tijuana back to home countries

An estimated 3,000 migrants have descended on the Mexican border town of Tijuana since Wednesday, where officials have arrested 34 members of the caravan for offenses such as drug possession, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.

Police said those taken into custody will be turned over to federal officials for deportation back to their home countries in Central America.

What are the details?

Last week, the caravan began pouring into Tijuana en route to the U.S. border. The migrants were met with protests from hundreds of local residents, who took to the streets yelling, “Out! Out!”

The Washington Times reported Tuesday that not all of the caravan’s estimated 4,000 to 6,000 members had reached Tijuana yet, but officials there are sending any misbehaving migrants back to where they came from.

National Public Radio reported that Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum said of the caravan last week, “I would dare say that not all of them are migrants. Sure, there are some good people in the caravan, but many are very bad for the city.”

Speaking on Mexican television, Gastelum continued, “Some of them are a bunch of bums, smoking marijuana in the street, and attacking our families in Playas de Tijuana. Who is leading them?”

A story from Slate said Gastelum has threatened to deport migrants under Article 33 of Mexico’s Constitution, which says foreigners whose presence becomes “inconvenient” can be booted from the country.

“Tijuana is a city of migrants, but we just don’t want them this way,” Gastelum explained. “They are aggressive, vulgar and they bully authorities.”

Gastelum has been seen sporting a MAGA-style red “Make Tijuana Great Again” hat, according to NPR.

Anything else?

Tijuana has been overwhelmed with caring for the unexpected visitors, donating food and creating temporary shelters. AZCentral reported last week that local officials said they only have the resources to accommodate the migrants for a few weeks, and asked the federal government for $4 million to assist.

Dr. Allen Keller from New York’s Bellevue Hospital has been working as a volunteer at a Tijuana sports complex, which has been turned into a makeshift shelter.

“This is a public health emergency waiting to happen — especially as more people arrive from this and other caravans,” he told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday.

The U.S. has fortified barriers along the border in Tijuana, and stepped up security to prevent migrants from illegally crossing over from Mexico.

Hawaii Congresswoman Calls Trump 'Saudi Arabia’s Bitch'

WASHINGTON – A Hawaii congresswoman referred to President Trump as Saudi Arabia's "bitch" in a tweet today criticizing Trump's Tuesday decision to not punish Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the murder and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi.

The CIA reportedly assessed that the murder of the Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was traced back directly to MBS. The CIA reportedly dismissed Trump's earlier suggestion that the hit team that went from Saudi Arabia to Istanbul to kill and dismember Khashoggi, a regime critic who had been living in exile for a year in Virginia, may have been rogue elements disconnected from any official state orders.

"Our intelligence agencies continue to assess all information, but it could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event – maybe he did and maybe he didn’t!" Trump said in a statement released by the White House on Tuesday.

"That being said, we may never know all of the facts surrounding the murder of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi. In any case, our relationship is with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," the president added, calling the regime "a great ally."

Trump told reporters on the White House lawn afterward, when asked why he was "siding with the Saudis over your own intelligence community," that "it's all about 'America First.'"

"We're not going to give up hundreds of billions of dollars in orders, and let Russia, China, and everybody else have them. It's all about, for me – very simple – it's 'America First,'" he said. "Saudi Arabia – if we broke with them, I think your oil prices would go through the roof. I've kept them down. They've helped me keep them down."

That prompted a response today from Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii):

Gabbard is allied with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in wanting to stop assistance to the Saudis to wage war in Yemen.

"The President indicates that Saudi Arabia is the lesser two evils compared to Iran and so the US won’t punish Saudi Arabia for the brutal killing and dismemberment of a dissident journalist in their consulate. I disagree," Paul tweeted Tuesday. "We should, at the very least, NOT reward Saudi Arabia with our sophisticated armaments that they in turn use to bomb civilians."

"I’m pretty sure this statement is Saudi Arabia First, not America First. I’m also pretty sure John Bolton wrote it," Paul added of Trump's written statement on the Khashoggi murder.

Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, sent a letter to Trump on Tuesday reminding him that, under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, his administration has to issue to Congress a "determination and a decision on the imposition of sanctions on that foreign person or persons" in the Khashoggi murder.

"On October 10, we sent a letter requesting that you make a determination on the imposition of sanctions pursuant to the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act with 'respect to any foreign person responsible' for Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder," Corker and Menendez wrote. "In light of recent developments, including the Saudi government’s acknowledgement that Saudi officials killed Mr. Khashoggi in its Istanbul consulate, we request that your determination specifically address whether Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman is responsible for Mr. Khashoggi’s murder. We expect to receive your determination within 120 days of our original request."

Morocco - Woman Dumped By Lover Kills Him; Cooks and Serves His Remains

A Moroccan woman could have gotten away with murdering her lover had someone not shockingly discovered a human tooth in her blender. It turns out, she not only killed her boyfriend but also horrifically cooked his remains and served them to Pakistani workers in the United Arab Emirates.

The police said that the woman served up her lover’s remains as part of a traditional rice and meat dish to some Pakistani nationals working close by.

The man’s murder took place three months ago but it was only discovered when his brother went looking for him in Al Ain city, located near the border of Oman. The brother found the human tooth inside the blender.

Initially, the woman lied to the brother and told him she had kicked his brother out of her place.

The brother then reached out to the police authorities to report his brother as missing and informed him about the tooth he discovered. The authorities ordered DNA tests on the tooth and results confirmed that the tooth indeed belonged to the missing brother.

When questioned by authorities about the human tooth in her blender, the woman in her 30s confessed to the crime. She described her actions as a moment of “insanity.”

The woman also admitted to the police that she had relied on the help of a friend to help clear her apartment of traces of the murder.

The woman whose identity the authorities chose not to release yet has been in a relationship with the victim for seven years running before the dastardly crime. She got mad because of betrayal, however. She murdered him after he told her he was already planning to marry someone else from Morocco.

Authorities also decided to send the woman to the hospital for mental health checks.

The woman will go on trial pending an investigation into the case.

Chief Justice John Roberts Pushes Back Against Trump’s ‘Obama Judge’ Remark

Chief Justice John Roberts is pushing back against President Donald Trump’s description of a judge who ruled against Trump’s new migrant asylum policy as an “Obama judge.”

It’s the first time that the leader of the federal judiciary has offered even a hint of criticism of Trump, who has previously blasted federal judges who ruled against him.

Roberts said Wednesday the U.S. doesn’t have “Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges.” He commented in a statement released by the Supreme Court after a query by The Associated Press.

Roberts said on the day before Thanksgiving that an “independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.”

Last year, the president used the term a “so-called judge” after the first federal ruling against his travel ban.

Hayward: Yes, Jamal Khashoggi Was a Member of the Muslim Brotherhood

The murder of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October prompted much debate about the writer’s past affiliations and ideological inclinations.

Responding to President Donald Trump’s Tuesday statement on the killing, Katy Tur of MSNBC falsely claimed Khashoggi was never a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, but he indisputably was a member and a lifelong proponent of its Islamist ideals. Acknowledging this truth does not in any way condone his death at the hands of Saudi agents.

Tur’s point was that everyone who mentions Khashoggi’s Brotherhood past, including President Trump, is attempting to justify his murder:

What they try to do is say that Jamal Khashoggi was not a good guy. They casually drop in that he – the Saudi Arabians say he was part of the Muslim Brotherhood and that he was an enemy of the state. Those two things are not true, and it’s interesting to put Saudi Arabian propaganda into a U.S. statement.

The relevant passage from President Trump’s statement on Tuesday read as follows: “Representatives of Saudi Arabia say that Jamal Khashoggi was an ‘enemy of the state’ and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, but my decision is in no way based on that – this is an unacceptable and horrible crime.”

Ryan Saavedra of the Daily Wire posted the Tur clip and noted that even the liberal Brookings Institute acknowledges Khashoggi was indeed a member of the Muslim Brotherhood:

The October 19 Brookings Institute post to which Saavedra referred, written by Senior Fellow Tamara Cofman Wittes, was critical of “pro-Saudi social media” and “right-wing commentators in the United States” who implied Khashoggi “was an extremist and that those who condemn his apparent murder are serving an Iranian agenda to break up the U.S.-Saudi alliance.”

Saudi FM Slams Reports of Possible Regime Change Amid Khashoggi Case

Earlier, Reuters reported that certain members of the Saudi royal family are considering changing the line of succession to prevent Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman from becoming the next king amid the Khgashoggi scandal.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir called reports about a possible coup in a bid to change the royal line of succession "ridiculous" and "way out of line," CNBC reported.

"The leadership of Saudi Arabia represented in the king and the crown prince is a red line for every Saudi — man or woman […] These are outrageous comments that are being made and are totally unacceptable," he said.

Al-Jubeir also assured that the Saudi people are totally supportive of both their king and crown prince and that the whole country is "unified" in its view for the Vision 2030 policy, proposed by Mohammad bin Salman.

"We will continue to move in spite of what people may or may not say," he added.

Reuters reported on 20 November 2018 that, citing anonymous sources close to the royal court, some members of the Saudi Royal Family have been campaigning against Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman becoming the next king. According to the news agency, dozens of princes and cousins from several branches of the royal family are considering putting Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, 76, a brother of King Salman, on the throne following the king's death.

The dissatisfaction with the crown prince within the Al Saud family was reportedly caused by the scandal around the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Riyadh blamed "rogue agents" for organising and executing the assassination of the journalist and denied any involvement of the royal family in the case.

US President Donald Trump said in a speech on November 20 that the crown prince could have known about Khashoggi's murder, despite the Saudi king "vigorously" denying it. Trump stated that the US must stick to its Gulf ally regardless, in order to ensure the security interests of the US and its allies.

Jamal Khashoggi was murdered on 2 October in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. The Saudi Prosecutor's Office said that he was first restrained and then heavily drugged. Riyadh insists that Khashoggi's murder was a "rogue operation" and announced that it had arrested 21 suspects and charged 11 of them. Five of the suspects are facing the death penalty if they are found guilty.

Law sanctioning parents who won't vaccinate passes preliminary reading

There have been more than 1,000 cases of measles reported in Israel this year, the bulk of which are in the Jerusalem area.

The Knesset passed a preliminary reading of a bill that allows placing sanctions on parents who refuse to immunize their children, with a majority of 115 supporters on Wednesday. The bill was proposed by MK Yoel Hasson (Kadima) and MK Shuli Moalem-Refaeli (Bayit Yehudi).

In addition, a second law - stating that in the event of an outbreak of an illness, all educational institutions will be required to deny entry to anyone who has not been immunized - passed a preliminary reading with a majority of 112 supporters. The law was initiated by MK Merav Ben-Ari (Kulanu).

"The law is especially important during this time when there is an outbreak of measles throughout the country," Ben-Ari said.

There have been more than 1,000 cases of measles reported in Israel this year, the bulk of which are in the Jerusalem area. The Health Ministry said earlier this year that 90% of the cases in Israel were either people who had not been vaccinated, or who came into contact with unvaccinated people.

Measles can have lasting effects such as hearing loss, and is fatal for one in 1,000 children who catch it.

The MMR vaccine is 97% effective in preventing infection with the measles virus when the recommended two doses are received on time, according to the Health Ministry.

The proposal by Moalem-Refaeli (Bayit Yehudi) and Hasson (Zionist Union) was written by family health organization Midaat, and is backed by the Israel Medical Association and the Israel Pediatric Association.

Hasson praised the ministerial committee for voting “to heal a sick system.

“Now we will be able to implement the national vaccination policy… which balances protecting public health with freedom. I am happy to initiate a long-term solution that will protect our children’s health,” Hasson said.

“Children who are not vaccinated are in danger of catching diseases and can spread them to those surrounding them and be the center for outbreaks of serious diseases that can have tragic results," said Moalem-Refaeli, who is a nurse by profession.

“We must respond to parents who refuse to vaccinate from lack of knowledge or ideological reasons, and bring better public health,” she added.

Malware Posing As Innocent Games Downloaded By Millions Of Android Users

It seems like Google’s crackdown on developers and refining the Play Store was only a drop in the bucket; the problem seems much bigger than anticipated.

Today, a security researcher at ESET, Lukas Stefanko, called out thirteen Google Play Store apps which were originally malware disguising themselves under the name of the driving game for Android.

The Android apps which ranked on the Google Play Store with installs more than 580,000 were removed by Google as soon as the news the broke out.

Scott Westover, a Google spokesperson, confirmed to TechCrunch that the apps violated Google Play Store policies, which is why they have been removed from the Android app store.

Meanwhile, Luckas also posted one of the app functionality videos on Twitter. For example, once the driving game app is opened on an Android device, it automatically shuts down after showcasing two-three animations for a few seconds. Following which, the app icon immediately vanishes from the device.

Following the launch, the app trigger ads when the device is unclocked, Lucas mentions in his tweets. While no one seems to be exactly sure of the intent of the malware, as indicated by the uploaded sample to VirusTotal.

One thing for sure is that the app was downloading a payload from a domain, registered to an app developer in Istanbul. Also, it had permissions like “full network access” and “run at startup”.

All the thirteen malicious apps were displayed under the tag of “Google Play Protect,” which raises questions weather Play Protect service is actually protecting anything or not.

U.S. Marshals pulling out of downtown county jail following damning report

CLEVELAND - Inmates who reside in the Cuyahoga County Jail are forced to live in unacceptable conditions in an inhumane environment where basic civil liberties are withheld, sometimes as a form of punishment by staff, according to a facility review report conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The review came in the wake of six inmate deaths at the jail and multiple complaints from Cuyahoga County judges about the care inmates receive.

In wake of the damning report, U.S. Marshals announced on Wednesday they are pulling federal inmates out of the Cuyahoga County Jail downtown.

The Marshals will now house their prisoners in the Euclid Jail Annex, which is part of the county system.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said the jail review team found the Cuyahoga County Jail to be "one of the worst in the country."

Mattis: CIA Hasn't "Fully Established" Who Is Responsible For Khashoggi Killing

Even as the scandal surrounding Saudi Arabia's role in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi threatened one of the US's most important strategic alliances in the Middle East, Defense Secretary James Mattis remained conspicuously tight lipped about who bore responsibility for the killing, saying only that diplomatic crisis undermined stability in the region.

Well, one day after President Trump declared that the CIA could still very well determine that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman didn't know anything about the killing - despite Friday's Washington Post report claiming that the agency strongly believed that the order to kill Khashoggi came directly from the prince - Mattis defended his boss during a Pentagon press conference, saying that neither the CIA nor the Saudi government have "fully established" who was behind the killing. And even if the CIA could find definitive proof, it wouldn't change the fact that it's in the US's interest to work with the Saudis.

Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir played down reports about a rumored coup in Riyadh and said rumors about changing the line of succession were "ridiculous" and "way out of line," according to CNBC.

Given these remarks, and Trump's tweet from earlier Wednesday, we can expect oil prices to take another leg lower.

Some “wonder drug:” Aspirin found to have NO benefits for older adults, and may even cause significant harm

For years, the “daily baby aspirin” propaganda has suggested that taking a daily dose of the “wonder drug” would help stave off cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. But new research has just confirmed what many have long suspected: The notion that aspirin will prevent heart disease in healthy people is nothing but a pharmaceutical farce. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the findings are no doubt a slap in the face to Big Pharma and their shills. After spending decades insisting that pharmaceuticals are the pathway to perfect health, it turns out that the wonders of aspirin are more fiction that fact.

Past research has long indicated that the “daily aspirin” regime was doing more harm than good. And for many, the very idea that some pharmaceutical drug will magically prevent heart disease and boost heart health was hard to swallow; Big Pharma’s drugs rarely promote overall health — even though that’s what they’re allegedly designed to do.

Aspirin found to have zero health benefits

As Sayer Ji, founder of Green Med Info reports, research published last month in the New England Journal of Medicine, titled, “Effect of Aspirin on Disability-free Survival in the Healthy Elderly,” has revealed that healthy, older adults do not benefit from daily aspirin consumption. More, taking a baby aspirin every day increased the risk of adverse health outcomes. Specifically, daily aspirin intake was associated with an increased risk of mortality, largely attributed to cancer.

The study featured 19,000 adults who were aged 65 to 70, or older. Participants were part of a large-scale study across the United States and Australia.

GM Mosquito Release In Cayman Islands Ends Prematurely

There’s been a lot of buzz about GM mosquitoes to prevent the spread of the Zika virus. The Cayman Islands in the Caribbean took on a project to test their ability to ‘curb’ whatever those mosquitoes were supposed to be capable of doing: to prevent the spread of the Zika virus and dengue fever.

The UK-based genetic modification firm Oxitec, ‘creators’ of those GM mosquitoes, aka “bio-bugs,” apparently secured a mosquito release project for their GM male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to ‘impact’ the spread of dengue fever and Zika, which our friends at the Institute for Responsible Technology, under the leadership of Jeffrey Smith, opposed and obviously provided counter scientific information to Cayman authorities.

Something rather interesting happened, however: the project was stopped by the Mosquito Research and Control Unit, a few months after the project began. Apparently and according to MRCU, the project was stopped because it “appears to have fallen short” of its goal (?).

Oxitec was shutting down its operations and leaving the Caymans. The project cost the Cayman government $588,000.

According to Cayman News Service [1]

Nevertheless, it remains unclear how effective the project, which involved the release of millions of genetically modified insects into the environment, really was and whether the reason to curtail the programme related to a cost or efficacy issue.

However, “MRCU and Oxitec are considering a further, no-cost collaboration in 2019,” per a press release dated November 10, 2018.

However, this may not be the end of GM mosquitoes being released. Other countries, including the United States, are considering and/or doing it.

It will be interesting to learn what the Caymans found out, or realized, about their experiments.
