L.A. County reveals decision on domestic violence charges against Michael Avenatti

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed on Wednesday that they would not be seeking felony charges against Michael Avenatti, the attorney for adult film worker Stormy Daniels.

Here’s what happened

The official account for the L.A. County Attorney’s Office tweeted the decision Wednesday afternoon.

“A case presented today by #LosAngeles police involving attorney Michael Avenatti has been referred to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for misdemeanor filing consideration, the #LACounty District Attorney’s Office announced,” the tweet read.

Avenatti rose to prominence while feuding with the president over his client’s accusations that they had an extramarital affair before the became president. Daniels sued the president when he denied reports that he paid her off to keep quiet before the 2016 election, which his former lawyer Michael Cohen admitted to later.

TMZ first reported the domestic violence charges against Avenatti, but incorrectly said that it was his estranged wife that filed the accusations. It was later ascertained that a former girlfriend of the attorney had made the accusations instead.

Mareli Miniutti accused Avenatti of physically and verbally assaulting her in an altercation at an apartment they shared. She says she has bruises as a result of the fight. Avenatti absolutely denies all the accusations of abuse.

He is not off the hook

Despite the D.A.’s office refusing to bring felony charges against Avenatti, they have referred him to the Los Angeles City Attorney General’s Office for the possibility of misdemeanor charges, which would be far less serious.

Avenatti responded positively to the statement from the attorney general’s office in a statement he posted on his social media account.

“I am thankful that the Los Angeles County District Attorney General’s Office has rejected filing any charges against me after a fair, careful and thorough investigation,” he said in the statement. “I have maintained my innocence since the moment of my arrest. I wish to thank my supporters, friends, family, attorneys, and clients for the outpouring of support they provided.”

“This Thanksgiving, I am especially grateful for justice,” he concluded.

Ten Lies We’re Told to Justify the Slaughter of 20 Million in the First World War

Dominic Alexander debunks the myths used by politicians and historians to rebrand ‘the war to end all wars’ in the centenary of Armistice Day. This Remembrance Day will doubtless see strenuous efforts by some to justify the fruitless bloodbath that was the First World War. Revisionist commentators have long attempted to rehabilitate the conflict as necessary and just, but the arguments do not stand up.

It does no service to the memory of the dead to allow any illusions in the justice or necessity of war, particularly so when the precedents will be used to argue for the next ‘necessary’ conflict. From the causes of the war, to its prosecution and its results, here are the counter-arguments to ten common pro-war ploys.

1 The war was fought in defence of democracy – This is contradicted by the basic facts. Germany had universal manhood suffrage while in Britain, including Ireland, some 40% of men still did not qualify for the vote. In Germany also, there were attempts to justify the war on the grounds that it was being fought to defend civilised values against a repressive, militaristic state, in the form of Russian autocracy.

2 Britain went to war due to a treaty obligation to defend the neutrality of Belgium – There was no clear and accepted obligation on Britain to do this, and, in fact, before the Belgian issue appeared, the war party in the cabinet was already pushing for British intervention on the entirely different ground that there were naval obligations to France. These obligations had been developed in secret arrangements between the military of both countries, and were never subject to any kind of democratic accountability. The Germans even offered guarantees over Belgian integrity, which the British government refused to consider at all.

3 German aggression was the driving force for war – However aggressive the German leadership may have been in 1914, the British establishment was at least as determined to take the opportunity to go to war with its imperial rival. At one point the Foreign Office even seized on imaginary German incursions into France to justify a British declaration of war on Germany. The declaration letter had to be retrieved from the German ambassador and rewritten when it was discovered that the stories were false. The enthusiasm of the British ruling class for war undermines any justification for it based on German aggression.

4 Germany had started a naval arms race with Britain – Imperialist competition between the two states over markets and resources preceded the arms race in the fifteen years before the war. Britain’s naval power was the vital element in its ability to restrict German access to markets and resources across the world. Unless Britain was willing to allow Germany to expand economically, the logic of capitalist competition meant that Germany was bound to challenge British naval supremacy. The latent violence of the leading imperial nation is always the context for aggressive challenges to the status quo on the part of rising powers.

Deutsche Bank is being drawn deeper into the widening money-laundering scandal surrounding Danske Bank.

Whistle-blower Howard Wilkinson, who stunned a parliamentary hearing with an assertion that he was offered hush money by the Danish lender, estimated that more than half the $230 billion in suspect funds handled by the bank was funneled through Deutsche Bank AG’s U.S. unit. While he didn’t identify the lender, a person familiar with the matter confirmed it was Deutsche Bank.

Europe should take a long, hard look at the international correspondent banks and U.K.-based shell companies that greased the flow of dirty money in one of the biggest laundering scandals in history, according to the man who first brought the case to the light of day.

Howard Wilkinson, a former Danske Bank A/S manager who blew the whistle on its multi-billion dollar laundromat, told lawmakers in Brussels that when it comes to shell companies, or limited liability partnerships, the U.K. is “worst of all.” He said he was legally prevented from naming the other banks involved, but urged lawmakers to treat the Danske scandal as a case that goes well beyond its core in Estonia.

This “wasn’t just about Danske Bank in Estonia. Not even about Danske Bank in Denmark. There was a whole load of banks involved,” he said. “The U.S. banks, including the U.S. subsidiary of a European Bank, were basically the last checks. Once the money got through them it was out, clean and into the global financial system.”

ICE removes 5 fugitives wanted in El Salvador for various crimes including aggravated murder

HOUSTON — Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) on Friday removed five illegal aliens from El Salvador, who were fugitives wanted in their home country for various serious crimes, including aggravated murder.

Jose David Umanzor-Hernandez, 26, was wanted for aggravated homicide and criminal associations;

Ever Rafael Roca-Ruiz, 24, was wanted for aggravated homicide;

Milessa Carolina Cortez-Granados, 22, was wanted for attempted aggravated murder and terrorist organizations;

Pedro Antonio Cruz Rodriguez, 20, was wanted for aggravated homicide, terrorist organizations and aggravated deprivation of liberty; and

Kevin Brandon Aragon Luna, 20, was wanted for terrorist organizations.

All five were flown on an ICE Air Operations charter flight from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, to the Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in San Salvador, El Salvador. Upon arrival in El Salvador, all five fugitives were presented to the Policia Nacional Civil (PNC) for arrest.

Umanzor-Hernandez, Roca-Ruiz, Cortez-Granados, and Cruz Rodriguez are all known members of the brutal transnational criminal street gang MS-13. All five individuals illegally entered the U.S.

Umanzor-Hernandez illegally entered the U.S. at an unknown date and location and was ordered removed by an immigration judge Sept. 10.

Roca-Ruiz illegally entered the U.S. Oct. 14, near Falfurrias, Texas, and was processed as an expedited removal.

Cortez-Granados illegally entered the U.S. on Dec. 21, 2015, and was ordered removed by an immigration judge Oct. 26, 2018. She was previously removed Nov. 12, 2009.

Cruz Rodriguez illegally entered the U.S. on Nov. 2, 2016, near Hidalgo, Texas, and was ordered removed by an immigration judge April 23, 2018.

Aragon Luna illegally entered the U.S. Sept. 14, 2018, and was processed as an expedited removal.

Identifying and removing foreign fugitives from the United States is an ICE priority. ICE removed or returned 226,119 aliens in fiscal year 2017. The proportion of FY17 removals resulting from ICE arrests increased by nearly 10 percent over the previous fiscal year, and the number of ICE interior removals in FY17 increased by over 15,000 from FY16.

Only due to the US’ administration (more precisely due to the last US’ ambassador to Yugoslavia, Warren Zimmermann), a Bosnian-Herzegovinian President Alija Izetbegović (the author of the 1970 Islamic Declaration) rejected already agreed Lisbon Agreement about peaceful resolution of the Bosnian crises which was signed by the official representatives of the Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks in February 1992. Alija Izetbegović was one of those three signatories. The agreement was reached under the auspices of the European Community (the EC, later the European Union) that was represented by the British diplomat Lord Carrington and the Portuguese ambassador José Cutileiro. However, under the US’ protection, a Bosnian-Herzegovinian Bosniak-Croat Government declared independence on March 3rd, 1992 which local Serbs decisively opposed. Therefore, two warmongers, Warren Zimmermann and Alija Izetbegović pushed Bosnia-Herzegovina into the civil war which stopped only in November 21st, 1995 by signing the Dayton Accords in Ohio (Slobodan Milošević, Bill Clinton, Alija Izetbegović and Franjo Tuđman).[3]

It was exactly the US’ administration which crucially blessed the ethnic cleansing of the Serbs from the Republic of Serbian Krayina committed by Croatia’s police and army forces (including and neo-Nazi Ustashi formations) on August 4−5th, 1995. For the realization of this criminal operation (under the secret code Storm/Oluja) Washington gave to Zagreb all logistic, political, diplomatic and military support. As a consequence, around 250,000 Croatia’s Serbs left their homes in two days which were quickly occupied by the Croats.[4]

South Serbia’s Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metochia was firstly occupied in June 1999 by the NATO/KFOR’ forces and later in February 2008 politically separated from its motherland when Albanian-dominated Kosovo’s Parliament proclaimed the formal independence primarily as a direct consequence of the Serbophobic policy by the US’s administration of President Bill Clinton and his warmongering hawk Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. Today, Kosovo, except its northern part, is ethnically cleansed from the Serbs[5] and transformed into a mafia state with a silent blessing by Washington and the rest of the Western gangsters from the NATO and the EU who recognized its quasi-independence.[6]

Papadopoulos Says Just Days Before Going To Jail He Never Flipped On Trump In Russia Probe

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd November, 2018) Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos said in a statement on Wednesday that he has never changed sides during the FBI investigation into allegations of Russia-Trump collusion in the 2016 US presidential election.

"I never flipped against the president [Donald Trump]," Papadopoulos said via Twitter.

Papadopoulos is due to surrender on November 26 and spend 14 days in jail for lying to Federal prosecutors about contacts with Russian intermediaries during the 2016 race.

The Trump campaign aide said in the message that all he did was "expose the corruption of this 'investigation' for the world to see."

Papadopoulos is echoing statements about the Russia investigation expressed by Trump, who has frequently characterized it as a "witch hunt" and accused the team of Special Counsel Robert Mueller of bias and corruption.

Earlier on Wednesday, a new lawyer for Papadopoulos asked the US District Court for the District of Columbia to delay his client's surrender date. Yet, the federal prosecutors opposed this motion because Papadopoulos made a number of public statements "that appear to be inconsistent with his stated acceptance of responsibility."

Papadopoulos also received one year of supervised release, 200 hours of community service and was ordered to pay a $9,500 fine.
