Jeffry Gewind
During his studies he was a guest student at the universities of Salzburg, Erfurt and Jena. As a young leftist, Jeffry was romantically addicted to the GDR, only to become a fervent follower of Ronald Reagan and Jean Kirkpatrick, purified by conversations with East German friends.
In 1990, Georgetown University in Washington awarded him a doctorate in German Area Studies. After working at the American Enterprise Institute for Political Research in Washington for many years, he became director of the New Atlantic Initiative, an association of international institutes, until he was appointed director of the Aspen Institute in Berlin. That will still play a role.
