France Imposes Travel Bans on 18 Saudis Over Khashoggi Killing

Germany imposed similar sanctions earlier this week, as German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Germany had banned 18 Saudi citizens, suspected of being involved in the murder of Khashoggi, from entering the country, with Berlin also exerting pressure on arms exporters to make them halt weapon deliveries to Riyadh.

Paris has announced that it imposed imposed sanctions, including travel bans, on 18 Saudi citizens allegedly linked to Khashoggi murder, and that further punitive measures may be enacted in the future, depending on results of the ongoing investigation.

"The murder of Mr Khashoggi is a crime of extreme gravity, which moreover goes against freedom of the press and the most fundamental rights," French foreign ministry said in a statement. "France asks that all light be shed on the manner in which such an act may have been committed. It expects from the Saudi authorities a transparent, detailed and exhaustive response."

While the identities of the sanctioned individuals are not revealed, the Saudi authorities previously announced that 18 suspects had been arrested as part of the ongoing probe, with Turkey conducting a separate investigation, alleging that Khashoggi was killed by a 15-member hit squad sent from Saudi Arabia the day before he went missing.

Earlier this week, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Germany had banned 18 Saudi citizens, suspected of being involved in the murder of Khashoggi, from entering the country. On Tuesday, Reuters reported that anonymous sources close to the royal court some members of the Saudi Royal Family have been campaigning against Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman becoming the next king.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir however called reports about a possible coup in a bid to change the royal line of succession "ridiculous" and "way out of line."

Syrian Intelligence Launches Security Operation In Key District East Of Damascus

Syrian Air Force Intelligence Directorate (AFID) launched a security operation against terrorist cells and arms traffickers in the district of Barzeh east of the Syrian capital of Damascus.

The Damascus Voice pro-opposition news outlet revealed on November 20 that several former elements of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) 1st Brigade, including its leader “Abu al-Tyaib” and three field commanders “Abu Mahjub,” “Muru” and “Abu Fu’ad al-Habashi,” were arrested by the AFID during the operation.

Two days later, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Syrian security forces had uncovered weapons caches in Barzeh. The caches contained assault rifles, rocket propelled grenades, ammunition, explosives, suicide belts and communication systems.

Trudeau Quietly Approves $10.5 Billion Corporate Tax Cut To Compete With Trump

Maybe President Trump had a point when he blasted his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, for being "very dishonest and weak."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who earlier this year survived an embarrassing #MeToo scandal when a woman accused him of groping her at a party, is once again following President Trump's lead by imposing business-friendly tax cuts meant to spur economic growth and investment instead of using it to cut Canada's budget deficit. The tax cuts, according to Trudeau's government, are intended to help drive business and economic growth over the long term (sound familiar?).

Trudeau’s finance minister, Bill Morneau, introduced the corporate tax breaks - which will be worth some C$14 billion ($10.5 billion) over the next six years - in a fiscal update released Wednesday in Ottawa. According to Bloomberg, the cuts represent the Trudeau government’s biggest gift to Canadian businesses since taking power.

Here's how they will work: By allowing businesses to write off capital investments more quickly (particularly in manufacturing), businesses will be further incentivized to invest in expansion, which in turn should help improve competitiveness, as worries about Canadian businesses' ability to compete with the US (thanks largely to Trump's pro-growth policies) have intensified.

"This incentive will encourage more businesses to invest in assets that will help drive business growth over the long term," Morneau said, according to prepared remarks. "Because our economy is doing well, we also have the fiscal room to follow through on the commitments we made."

Notably, the government chose to impose across-the-board cuts instead of targeting Alberta's struggling energy sector…

…Which is reeling as the price of Canadian oil has tumbled back below $20 a barrel amid a worsening supply glut.

The tax cuts are being implemented as government revenues are rising. But the country's budget deficit is rising as well - something that could become an issue for Trudeau during budget season next spring. He will also be running for reelection in 2019, and unless Canada's legal pot sales can plug the entire hole, his ability to chart a path back toward fiscal restraint could become an issue.

The cuts will total C$83.5 billion over five years, up from C$78.3 billion forecast previously. While the cuts effectively hand more money back to Canadian companies, Trudeau's Liberal Party has resisted cutting the corporate income tax rate (preferring to sneak its corporate handouts in obscure "budget updates" that will likely go unnoticed by the Canadian public at large). But given that the expected 2018 budget deficit is expected to be lower than the C$18.1 billion projected, Trudeau and company figured they could get away with providing some additional fiscal stimulus. However, these cuts could come back to haunt them down the road, as Canada's government is expected to run bigger shortfalls over the four following years. Its total debt burden is projected to rise to C$765 billion by 2023-24, from C$688 billion in 2018-19 while the ratio of debt to GDP is expected to fall to 28.5% in 2023-24 from 30.9% in 2018-19.

But hopefully, Trudeau will have succeeding in making Canada great again long before then, and he can ride a growth boom in Canada's energy patch to another term in office.

Central Americans arriving at the US-Mexico border will have to wait in Mexico while their asylum claims are processed under a series of new immigration measures the Trump administration is preparing to implement as early as Friday, reports the Washington Post.

Under the new rules according to DHS memos obtained by the Post, if asylum seekers cannot establish a "reasonable fear" of persecution in Mexico, they will not be allowed to enter the United States while their applications are processed, and would be turned around at the border.

Iranian, Italian top diplomat discuss European payment mechanism in Rome

Iran and Italy have discussed the Special Vehicle Purpose (SPV), a payment mechanism being devised by Europe to facilitate trade with Iran in the face of US sanctions.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met his Italian counterpart Moavero Milanesi in Rome Thursday to review measures taken by the Europeans to protect the 2015 nuclear deal after the US withdrawal.

“The US has violated not only the JCPOA, but also the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and now it is urging others to do the same and threatens to punish the countries that respect it,” Zarif said, referring to the nuclear deal and the UN resolution which endorsed it.

Zarif is in the Italian capital on an official visit to attend the Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (MED).

The Italian foreign minister said the JCPOA helps promote international peace and security, stressing that Rome will make all-out efforts to help protect it along with other EU countries.

Talks between Iran and the European side come a week after the US special envoy for Iran threatened European banks and firms with fresh sanctions if they apply the SPV.

The SPV is an alternative payment mechanism that can help companies trade with Iran without facing US penalties.

Despite Washington’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May and re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran in November, the Europeans have reaffirmed their commitment to the JCPOA, as have Russia and China.

Iran has not left the landmark nuclear deal yet, but stressed that the remaining signatories to the agreement have to work to offset the negative impacts of the US pullout for Iran if they want Tehran to remain in it.

Erdogan Accuses Soros of Using Wealth to ‘Divide and Destroy Nations’

A broken clock gives the right time, twice a day. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused business magnate and Hungarian-American philanthropist George Soros of supporting the anti-government protests that rocked Turkey in 2013.

Erdogan also slammed main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s recent remarks criticizing last week the detentions of human rights activists in connection to the 2013 Gezi Park protests.

“Yesterday, the leader of this party [Kılıçdaroğlu] asserted some nonsense that praised the Gezi Park protests, extolled the so-called vandal protestors and accused us with regards to this. I am repeating one more time, Gezi Park protests were a project just like the leader of the CHP is,” Erdoğan said.

The demonstrations, which took place in the Gezi Park in the Turkish city of Istanbul, were considered the biggest protests in decades against the Turkish state. The intention was to destroy the park to create a shopping center in the area.

Erdogan believes Soros has received help from local “collaborator” Osman Kavala, a businessman and businessman who was arrested in October 2017 and was jailed for a year accused of “attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey and subvert constitutional order.”

MAJOR – EXPOSED: Al-Qaeda in Syria Assisted by Dutch Government

In a major revelation which FRN has confirmed, the Dutch government has engaged in assistance to terrorist groups in Syria, such as Al-Qaeda, that has been used for military purposes, although the government has claimed otherwise, a joint investigation of the Dutch daily Trouw and Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) has revealed.

The Trouw newspaper reported late on Wednesday that the Dutch government had issued documents proving that the groups used “almost all equipment” provided by the government in its military operations. The documents were allegedly published at the request of the Dutch media, but were unavailable for public viewing shortly after publication.

The documents also revealed the previously hidden names of two jihadist groups that received assistance from the Dutch government.

According to the Trouw-NOS investigation, the terrorist groups used cars offered by the Dutch government in attacks, as well as laptops, to set targets.

The investigation pointed out that these data contradict recent statements by Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok that the government had been providing only “non-military” assistance.

The lower house of the Dutch parliament asked for explanations from the cabinet.

In September, the Dutch government announced that it would stop providing assistance to opposition groups and other organizations operating in Syria due to the inefficiency of the aid program. The government said at the time that the program did not bring the expected results, as the Syrian government was close to declaring victory in the conflict.

Since May 2015, the Netherlands has transferred some 70 million euros (US $79.8 million) in assistance to 22 groups, including various opposition groups such as the Free Syrian Police and Al-Qaeda affiliated White Helmets. However, it is well established that all so-called “rebel” groups in Syria are in one way or another associated with Al-Qaeda or other jihadist groups that have extremist ideology. Despite this knowledge, it is clear Amsterdam in a crazed frenzy have wasted taxpayer money on attempting to overthrow a foreign leader.

‘A vicious place’: Trump blames ‘the world’ for Khashoggi’s death

After issuing a statement standing by Saudi Arabia in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder, President Trump told reporters that “the world should be held accountable” for the writer’s killing.

Trump was asked by a reporter on Thursday who he thinks should be held accountable for Khashoggi’s death.

“Maybe the world should be held accountable,” Trump replied. “Because the world is a vicious place. The world is a very vicious place.”

In his official statement on Khashoggi’s death, released Tuesday, the president opened with similar language. “The world is a very dangerous place!” Trump wrote, before explaining how some countries are more dangerous than others.

“It could very well be that the (Saudi) Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event,” Trump wrote. However, Trump insisted that the US would remain a “steadfast partner” of the desert Kingdom, citing Riyadh’s vital role as an oil exporter and ally against Iran.

The US has sanctioned 17 Saudi individuals for their alleged role in the killing, including Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, who Turkish authorities believe led a 15-man ‘kill team’ to Istanbul to murder Khashoggi. The Saudi government has not been sanctioned, despite the fact that the CIA concluded “with high confidence” that the Crown Prince ordered Khashoggi to be taken out.

Asked about the CIA report on Thursday, Trump said that the CIA's conclusion meant the agency "had feelings," not factual proof that the Prince was involved.
