I was not aware that Nancy Reagan was a long time fren of Gloria Vanderbilt according to a 1988 NY Tums article. The late First Lady attended Carter Cooper's eulogy. Carter Cooper suicided himself jumping from his his moms (Gloria Vanderbilt) penthouse appartment. Carter is also the brother of Anderson Cooper. After the service, Mrs. Reagan and Miss Vanderbilt embraced in Mrs. Reagan's limo.
