Heavy Rain Is Helping Contain California’s Deadliest Wildfire

Heavy rains in northern California are helping firefighters contain what has now become the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history.

Mother Nature is giving firefighters badly needed relief as they continue to battle the Camp Fire, a raging wildfire in the northern region of the state that has killed at least 84 people and has caused billions in damage. An inch and a half of rain came down Wednesday, a level of water that experts say was the perfect amount — not too little, but not too much.

“We needed it to come in and rain, and rain not too heavy,” National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Rasch explained, according to CNN.

The Camp Fire is now 95 percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Firefighters will be given extra relief as rain continues to pour down on the region. Two to 4 inches of rain were forecast to hit the upper portion of Camp Fire by Friday morning, and rain is expected to continue through Saturday.

However, while the rain is helping clear smoke and extinguish flames, is it also causing other problems. The combination of burned soil and heavy rain brings the deadly threat of flooding and mudslides. Meteorologists are now closely monitoring the amount of rainfall in the region and warning residents to be careful.

“Rainfall that would normally be absorbed will run off extremely quickly after a wildfire, as burned soil can be as water-repellent as pavement,” said the National Weather Service. “If you can look uphill from where you are and see a burnt-out area, you are at risk.”

A flash flood watch remains in effect until Friday morning for nearly 1 million people living in northern California.

In the southern part of the state, officials announced the Woolsey Fire was 100 percent contained. That fire had destroyed nearly 100,000 acres of land — a region so wide that is was visible by NASA’s Terra satellite in space.

As the wildfires rage on, officials continue to pass blame on what — or who — was exactly responsible. President Donald Trump has relentlessly pointed to California’s forest management as reason for the fires’ extra devastation. Many in the state have blamed climate change.

However, it is likely that the state’s biggest electric utility company will be held responsible. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) reported a power outage in a neighborhood close to where Camp Fire began. PG&E’s stock has tumbled as investors fear the company will be held responsible for the deadly fire.

Polish Parliament Backs Bill Allowing Retired Judges Return to Supreme Court

Yesterday was “Fake News Feeding Frenzy Friday” with most major MSM media outlets jumping to conclusions about news that veteran Conservative journalist Dr. Jerome Corsi had entered into plea bargain talks with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the immediate ( false) assumption that this would somehow negatively impact me.

As one can see from his recent videos and his recent interviews my friend Dr. Corsi has been under a tremendous amount of pressure and it is beginning to affect him profoundly. He has stated publicly that he is being asked over and over to say things he simply does not believe occurred.

While I am not aware of any plea talks involving Dr. Corsi, he is an investigative journalist whose activities I would think would largely be covered under the First Amendment.

He is relentless in his research, and his network of sources is very wide. As for what he may have known and when he may have known it, his discussions with me regarding the Podesta brothers were strictly limited to their Russian business interests unearthed in the Panama Papers , Breitbart News and other public sources that had reported about John and Tony’s activities.

This and only this was the basis of my now iconic tweet in which I said ‘THE Podesta’s time in the barrel is coming.” Most media outlet’s purposely omit the word “the” to make it appear I was speaking about John Podesta’s e-mails rather than both brothers and their lucrative business dealings with the oligarchs around Putin- the real Russian collusion.

I asked Dr, Corsi for a memo that summarized what I had read on line which he supplied about ten days later. I sent it out to a number of main stream journalists and, whaddaya know, no one was interested. They were to busy following Paul Manafort’s Eastern European business ties.

As I told The Washington post if Dr. Corsi knew that John Podesta‘s emails had been obtained by anyone and would be published,he never shared this information with me nor did he give me any such documents. There simply is no evidence to the contrary.

‘Last diplomat he knew’: Ecuador ousts London envoy, fuels rumors of Assange’s imminent eviction

This new and sudden twist in the Assange saga has been met with concern by his supporters.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno has terminated the credentials of his UK ambassador, who has been at the center of negotiating the fate of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange, as concerns mount over the whistleblower’s safety.

The decree, with which Moreno effectively sacked Ecuador’s London ambassador Abad Ortiz, was published by WikiLeaks on Wednesday. The document does not offer any explanation as to why Ortiz, who had been his country’s ambassador to the UK since 2015, is now being permanently recalled. Nor does it name a successor for the outgoing diplomat. The decree is effective immediately.

WikiLeaks tweeted that Abad, appointed to the office under President Rafael Correa, was the last diplomat the long-term self-exiled editor knew in the embassy. “All diplomats known to Assange have now been transferred away from the embassy,” the whistleblowing site claimed.

This new and sudden twist in the Assange saga has been met with concern by his supporters, with some suggesting that Moreno is doing Washington’s bidding by removing people who might have stood by Assange and opposed his potential handover to the British police – which is expected to bring about a swift extradition to the US. The dismissal has been called “a silent pro-US coup.”

One user argued that sending off diplomats Assange might have bonded with and surrounding him with complete strangers is a form of “psychological torture.”

Assange’s prolonged stay in Ecuador’s London embassy, where he has enjoyed protection from possible arrest and persecution in the US since 2012, has been hanging in the balance since the election of Moreno in 2017. Moreno, a former ally of Correa, has distanced himself from the anti-American policy of his predecessor and sought to reboot relations with the US. Ecuador is looking for US support in getting $3.9bn in international loans, and there have been reports that Washington’s assistance would be conditional to Ecuador’s handling of the Assange case.

Hillary Clinton Blasts Trump’s ‘Streak of Racism,’ ‘Whole Package of Bigotry’

Hillary Clinton accused President Donald Trump of having a long “streak of racism” and “the whole package of bigotry” in an interview with The Guardian.

“This is a person who believes in very little, but he does have visceral responses to what goes on in the world around him. He does have a strong streak of racism that goes back to his early years,” Clinton reportedly told the outlet in the interview published on Friday. “I include his anti-immigrant tirades because he characterizes immigrants in very racially derogatory ways, but he was Islamophobic, he was anti-women, he really had the whole package of bigotry that he was putting on offer to those who were intrigued and attracted to him.

Clinton, who infamously once accused black youth of being “super-predators,” also accused Trump of “raising the specter of criminal immigrants” for political gain.

“He was, from the very first day of his campaign, raising the [specter] of criminal immigrants and the like. So the anti-immigrant piece coupled with things that he said, the kind of people who supported him, former Ku Klux Klan members and the like, the message that we called the dogwhistle, was incredibly loud. It was: ‘I’m on your side because I don’t like the same people you don’t like. Or at least I’m going to say I don’t and that counts for something.’”

Clinton implied that Trump is purposely creating an “alternative reality” because he has studied other “authoritarian regimes and how they manipulate and control people.”

According to the outlet, Clinton cited research into fascism that former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright conducted that found “various populist, rightwing, fascist, authoritarian movements and leaders destroy a common base of fact and evidence, creating an ‘alternative reality.’”

“He is someone who craves dominance over any situation he finds himself in. He craves adulation, flattery, all of which fit the profile of leaders we can remember from the past,” Clinton added of Trump.
