Regarding Abraham and his temptation or proving, if you will, the following is offered. For who's benefit was Abraham "tested"? For God's benefit? Do you contend that we must prove ourselves to God? And that God constantly tests us to prove ourselves to him? This mindset is the foundation of religion. The very thing Christ Jesus rejected in his earthly ministry.
Judges 11:31 "Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the Lord's, and I wll offer it up for a BURNT OFFERING."
The above is a commitment Jephthah vowed to God he would do if he were successful in defeating Ammon.
Judges 11:33b-34
"Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. And Jephthah came to Mizpah unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was HIS ONLY CHILD; beside her he had neither son nor daughter."
Remember his promise? He must now offer her as a BURNT OFFERING.
Go ahead read the record and see where Japhthah killed his daughter and burned her. Oh wait, that didn't happen.
"And it came to pass at the end of two months that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel, that the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament (=celebrate in praise) the daughter of Jephthan the Gileadite four days in a year."
Wait, what? She's a burnt sacrifice, no?
Should be toast, no? And yet we see her alive and given in service to the Lord, remaining a virgin, and being visited four times a year and praised for her honoring of her father and her commitment to God.
So, no, this shit is not made up. It's God's Word. The temptation, test, proving of Abraham was a request by God for Abraham to offer his son Issac in full service to Him. For Abraham to put God above all else, including his son Issac. To give Issac wholly over in service to God. Do you believe that God, who knows the heart, did not know what Abraham would do? For who's benefit is the temptation?
