Ukraine says Russia seized its ships near annexed Crimea after firing on them

Ukraine accused Moscow of illegally seizing three of its naval ships off Russia-annexed Crimea on Sunday after opening fire on them, a charge that if confirmed could ignite a dangerous new crisis between the two countries.

Russia did not immediately or directly respond to the allegation, but Russian news agencies cited the FSB security service as saying it had incontrovertible proof that Ukraine had orchestrated what it called "a provocation" and would make its evidence public soon.

Naked, burned human remains found near Staten Island school

A naked woman’s charred and partially decomposed corpse was found in the woods near a Staten Island Elementary school Sunday, according to police sources.

Investigators recovered the remains near Bartow and Eugene Avenue in a wooded South Shore park that abuts Public School 6 just before 2 p.m. following a 911 call, police and fire officials said.

It was not clear whether the woman died before or after she was set ablaze, but the incident is being investigated as a homicide, sources said.

Merkel: “Nation states must today be prepared to give up their sovereignty”

No this wasn’t something Adolf Hitler said many years ago, this is what German Chancellor Angela Merkel told attendants at an event by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin on Wednesday.

“In an orderly fashion of course,” Merkel went on to say. She even went so far as to condemn those in her own Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party who think Germany should withdraw from the controversial UN migration pact:

“There were [politicians]who believed that they could decide when these agreements are no longer valid because they are representing The People”.
