IMO, that's currently the best theory of why we're going through this 2 year shitshow. We can't get 'em for what they did, but their desire to get their power back, which necessarily means covering up past crimes even if they are immune*, meant it was all but a certainty that they'd continue the crime spree.

*The optics of their criminal behavior in the past would effectively make them pariahs, ending their global domination efforts even if there aren't any legal repercussions.

Apparently the Kashoggi story is not done. Now there's a report that they're searching some farm for his body. WaPo source, of course.

He's not dead. they're fucked.

I realize that. The problem is the alternate viewpoint: once you take away the Presidential pardon, for any reason, Presidents will constantly be looking over their shoulders worried if they'll get charged with a crime for simply executing the duties of their office. It can't happen. It doesn't matter if this is unprecedented - it's already covered.

If by "at that point" you mean that it's a good thing he can't be indicted and he can pardon himself, yeah. That's the whole point. A President would be powerless without these two freedoms not otherwise afforded to the rest of us. Face it, the position demands it.

He's not. He's already stated that he can pardon himself. Did you not see that? All the lawfags agreed, unanimously almost.

>I agree about not being indicted while in office but I do not agree about being able to pardon oneself for treason.

Then you didn't read the Constitution. There's literally only one condition.
