In medical school the new trend was “evidence based medicine.” I was personally in a residency where the director fudged numbers on research. It happens. A lot. Who is funding the evidence? We were also told we undertreated pain and pain was the fifth vital sign. I graduated in 2001. 17 years later: we have an opioid epidemic and doctors are being prosecuted for overprescribing. But, wait? We were told in medical school we had to treat our patients in pain…
Absolutely. This opioid epidemic gets rid of ne’er do wells and has made pharma a shitload of money. Totally manufactured. Not the first time in history, either. Check China, the British empire and the opium trade. Opium destroyed a whole generation of China. The emperor then banned it’s import and the bloody Brits, because they, too, made tons of money in its trade annexed Hong Kong.
