Why doesn't the US just rent an office over the border in Mexico to process asylum claims. The "migrants" can apply there, and wait it out in MX. They never set foot in US, so BOOM, no catch and release and no expense of detaining, and no cockblocking laws preventing detaining of children.
Not staying in Mexico and accepting offered asylum = home wasn't so oppressive after all.
