Sorry Anon I worked with his office at the time and know the story very well. There was an discrepancy withthe number of stars he was wearing on his Vietnam combat awards. Newsweek was getting ready to publish an article on it. He chose to end his life rather than to bring dishonor to the Navy. I knew his personal driver. CNO left that afternoon and rather than have my frien drive him like normal he said no thanks and drove himself back to the Navy Yard. The driver thought this was suspicious and left right behind him. He heard the gunshot as he was reaching for the doorbell.
