This is what the elites have planned for the world
The Brief – Juncker’s plan to save the world
Commission HQ revealed today how the EU can stick to the Paris Agreement and curb global warming. But the Clean Planet for All plan omitted one important factor that should be crucial to reining in climate change: human behaviour.
The new smorgasbord of 2050 climate scenarios covers everything from the very loosest interpretation of the Paris Agreement to what are, admittedly, impressive pathways that could stand a chance of saving us from climate oblivion.
It is geared in such a way that member states will have little choice but to choose from one of the two net-zero emissions options (if they don’t want to be accused of reneging on the Paris deal), which will, in turn, mean upgrading existing energy targets.
Credit where credit is due, the Commission has manoeuvred this one quite expertly. Not only can they not be accused of imposing milestones or targets (because they haven’t), they can’t even be accused of giving belligerent EU capitals only one way out (there are eight options).
We understand that the Commission originally wanted to make well-meant suggestions about eating less meat, walking more, using public transport etc.
Hardly controversial stuff on first reading. We all need to change the way we live our lives, because just putting up wind turbines and shutting coal mines won’t hack it alone.
But you can guarantee that an EU strategy making those kinds of suggestions would’ve prompted derisory headlines like ‘Eurocrats want to ban YOUR steaks’ or ‘EU Commissars force schoolchildren to walk home’. It’s the world we live in, unfortunately.
