Wheels are 380/386 alloy. They melt around 1380F. Once the molten metal cools and returns to solid form everything changes: its chrystal lattice structure changes and it new melt point is much higher. Lab analysis will provide little insight into what sort of energy caused the melting, but it was hot enough to melt aluminum sparing the automotive steel (melting point = 2500F). My guess is this was Infrared energy.
