“Sarah Ferguson takes "every minute as a blessing" after she narrowly missed being killed in the 9/11 terror attacks on New York's Twin Towers, she has revealed.

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, also known as Fergie, was in New York on 11th September 2001 because her Chances for Children charity's office was on the 101st floor of the Twin Towers - specifically, the North Tower. However, on the day of the terror attack Fergie was delayed by 20 minutes and wasn't in the office.

The lesson she's learned from avoiding the tragedy is: "The minute you look too far forward, then you're missing now," she told Hello!, adding: "The minute you look back… you can't go back. Hindsight is a wonderful thing."

Fergie's charity's mascot, a little rag doll called Little Red, was on her desk during the attacks.

After the collapse of the Towers, "From 101 floors Little Red came down in her dress, a little tiny ragdoll, and she was found in the rubble. And CNN filmed it and said 'oh a child's doll,' and Larry King said 'no, that's Little Red, and she stands for children's rights all over the world.' From Little Red, I've gone on to build a lot of schools and taught many teachers."

She has previously said, "I was so worried they would think that a child was lost or buried in the rubble."

Fergie has since pitched fiction about Little Red's survival of 9/11 but sources told the Daily Mail that American publishers haven't been so keen to snap it up.
