Suitcase full of cocaine found at New York airport

Nov. 28 (UPI) – Authorities in New York state said they are trying to find the owner of an abandoned suitcase found to contain $1.3 million worth of cocaine.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York searched a bag that arrived on a flight from Quito, Ecuador, and discovered it contained 38 smaller, brick-like packages.

The packages were found to contain a total of more than 100 pounds of cocaine.

The Port Authority Police Department said it is trying to identify the owner of the suitcase, who has not come forward to claim their luggage.

Leader Of Macon-Based Sex Trafficking Operation Sentenced In Federal Court, Cohort Also Sentenced

MACON—The leader of a sex trafficking operation involving seven victims was sentenced to 174 months in prison, announced Charles E. Peeler, the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. Najiy Williams, a/k/a “King”, age 36 of Macon, Georgia, was sentenced in federal court today by the Honorable Marc T. Treadwell on the charge of Inducement to Travel to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity.

The sentence includes a $250,000 fine and a term of lifetime supervised release. In addition, Hamza Abdul Vasser, a/k/a “Joseph” a/k/a “Joey,” age 29 of Douglasville, Georgia, was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment and a term of lifetime supervised release on the charge of Transportation for Illegal Sexual Activity. Both defendants will be required to register as sex offenders upon release from prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) first received information that Mr. Williams was trafficking women and with assistance from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, identified seven adult women who said they were forced to have sex in hotel rooms in the Macon area, as well as cities across the southeast, including Charleston, South Carolina and Valdosta, Georgia, between September 2015 and February 2017. According to the plea agreement, one victim reported engaging in more than 550 sex acts

The Last Of 21 Latin King Members And Associates Sentenced To 27 Years In Prison For Racketeering Conspiracy Involving Two Murders In Indiana

WASHINGTON – A Cedar Lake, Indiana Latin Kings gang member, was sentenced to 324 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering activity and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana for his role and participation in the Latin Kings street gang, announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Thomas L Kirsch II for the Northern District of Indiana.

Sergio M. Robles aka Checko, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jon E. DeGuilio. At sentencing, Robles was held responsible for participating in the December 2003 murder of Jonathan Zimmerman in Hammond, Indiana, and the May 2008 murder of Jose Cortez in East Chicago, Indiana. The Latin Kings suspected Zimmerman was involved in a drug transaction with counterfeit currency. Accordingly, Zimmerman was shot and killed by a co-defendant. Jose Cortez was shot to death by another co-defendant because the Latin Kings believed Cortez was a member of a rival street gang. According to documents in this case, Robles possessed a firearm in furtherance of the gang’s activities and was involved in a conspiracy to distribute 150 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.

Feds begin paying next phase to Madoff scam victims – $695M

Nov. 30 (UPI) – The Justice Department said Thursday it's started giving $695 million to investors who lost money in the Ponzi scheme run by Bernard Madoff, believed to be the largest such scam in history.

The third phase of the distribution comes almost two weeks before the 10th anniversary of Madoff's arrest. Authorities believed the fraud was estimated at $65 billion.

The money will be sent to more than 27,000 victims worldwide, accounting for 56 percent of the money they lost, a Justice Department statement said. Prosecutors said when it's finished, more than $4 billion will have been returned.

"Bernie Madoff's scheme devastated retirement and pension funds, charitable organizations, and thousands of individual investors spread across 49 States, the District of Columbia, and 121 other countries," Asst. Attorney General Brian Benczkowski said Thursday.

Rise of killer robots seems inevitable at EU conference

ither Europe's military-industrial complex is incredibly shy - or it thinks that the debate about whether Europe should use lethal autonomous weapons is already over before it began.

The European Defence Agency held its annual conference in Brussels on Thursday (29 November), titled 'From unmanned to autonomous systems: trends, challenges and opportunities'.

At the last panel, one of the speakers said that it was inevitable that Europe would develop such military systems, because its adversaries would.

EUobserver subsequently asked if any of the other panel members, or anyone in the audience, believed that it was not inevitable that Europe would use fully autonomous lethal weapons.

No one among the roughly 100 participants - which included EU military brass, companies, civil servants working in defence ministries and EU institutions - raised their hand.

The only one who responded was Milan Rollo, who had made the remark about inevitability, to clarify what he had said.

Rollo is a robotics researcher at the Czech Technical University, as well as chief technological officer at AgentFly Technologies, a company offering services related to drones.

"I wouldn't say it's inevitable to deploy them. It is inevitable to possess it," he said.

State Department approves HIMARS sale for Poland

Nov. 30 (UPI) – The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale to Poland of 20 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System mobile rocket launchers at an estimated cost of $665 million.

The potential sale also includes guided rockets, 30 Army Tactical Missile System long-range battlefield missiles, data systems, support vehicles and training equipment

The State Department says the sale will support a NATO ally and U.S. security interests, will be easily integrated into the Polish and will not seriously affect the balance of power in Eastern Europe. The deal falls under Foreign Military Sales.

HIMARS is a wheeled Multiple Launch Rocket System that can fire up to six rockets at a time. The rockets depending on the model can carry submunitions for area suppression or a single unitary blast warhead.

Earthquake hits near Argentina capital as world leaders attend G20 summit

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake has struck south of Buenos Aires, where world leaders are gathered for the G20 summit.

The quake hit an area located 33 kilometers south of the city, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center.

It had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

It occurred on the first day of the G20 summit, with world leaders gathered in Buenos Aires. They are slated to discuss a range of topics, with global trade expected to be at the forefront.

US accuses Iran of violating UN arms export ban, says Iranian threat growing

The U.S. has accused Iran of stepping up violations of a UN ban on arms exports by increasingly supplying weapons to militant groups across the Middle East and continuing its missile program.

In a November 29 presentation at a military base in Washington, Brian Hook, the U.S. special representative for Iran showed reporters weapons and fragments of weapons seized in Afghanistan, Bahrain, and Yemen that it said are evidence Iran is a “grave and escalating threat” that must be stopped.

The presentation, the second such one in the last year, is part of U.S. efforts to increase pressure on Tehran to halt what Washington calls “malign activities” in the region.

Iran has denied such accusations in the past.

No lessons learned? German government votes in favour of UN Migration Pact

The German government voted today with a majority in favour of the Global Compact for Migration which has been widely criticised for seeking to mix migration and asylum.

In total 372 MPs voted in favour, 153 voted against and 141 abstained. Before the votes were cast Heiko Maas, the current Foreign Minister from the Socialist Democratic Party, called the pact a great success, which would allow for safe migration.

He went on to call out critics for their ineptitude to read the pact and believes it to be in the interests of Germany.

Stephan Thomae of the Free Democratic Party mentioned the pact was non-binding by law and would lower migration pressure on Germany because it would enforce international standards on migration.

The left-wing Green party had already demanded for the migration pact to be implemented into German law even prior to its signing.

Leftist council ‘blocking’ major inquiry into child abuse by grooming gangs in Rochdale, UK

Rochdale Council has been accused of blocking a major child abuse inquiry, Politicalite revealed.

Campaigners from Parents Against Grooming, a grassroots organisation of parents who have been affected by the child grooming scandal in Rochdale have been consistently campaigning for a full inquiry into the role played in covering up abuse by Rochdale Borough Council – abuse which allegedly included victims who had been found dead “in mysterious circumstances.”

Earlier this year, the former Labour Leader of Rochdale Council, Richard Farnell, was heavily criticised by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) panel which said that his claim to have no knowledge of abuse allegations at Knowl View school and the Cambridge House hostel, between the early 1960s and mid-1990s “defied belief”.

The group thought they had found an ally in the Council’s Deputy Leader, Sara Rowbotham (Lab) who worked from 2003 to 2014 as Rochdale’s crisis intervention team coordinator and made hundreds of referrals to police which were dismissed.

8-year-old German girl bullied and stabbed by Arab child at migrant majority school – Teacher covers it up

A news item from German broadcaster Sat 1 tells about the traumatic experience 8-year-old Yara had at a migrant majority school. She became an outcast, was bullied and even stabbed.

Little Yara was the last person in her classroom who spoke German at home. Her school can be characterised as a migrant majority school with Turks and Arab migrants as students.

“They needed to employ an interpreter to translate from German to Turkish or Arabic in order for the Turkish, Arabic people to even understand what was going on. I felt a bit lost and that’s when I realised how it must feel for my daughter,” the girl’s father, Mike F., tells Sat 1.

The bullying of Yara increased and it even ended with her being stabbed by an ‘Arab child’.

“She was just pushed down by an Arab child that she didn’t even know. This child slit her abdomen with a sharp object,” her father says.
