Senate Intel Committee Has Made Criminal Referrals To Mueller, Chairman Reveals

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has made criminal referrals to the special counsel’s office, including regarding former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, the chairman of the panel revealed Friday.

“We have made referrals to the special prosecutor,” North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr said at a forum held at the University of Texas in Austin. “One instance just highlighted of late, is that the special prosecutor is using the transcripts of interviews that we have used in our committee to indict somebody for lying to Congress.”

“It’s a loud message to everybody who’s interviewed by our committee … if you lie to us we’re going to go after you,” the Republican added.

Burr was referring to Cohen, who pleaded guilty Thursday to lying to the Senate panel and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in 2017 regarding his work on a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

The committee provided special counsel Robert Mueller with transcripts of testimony provided during the panel’s two-plus year investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Burr said other referrals have been submitted to Mueller’s team, though he did not reveal details of those cases.

Cohen testified to both committees that his work on the project ended in January 2016 and that he did not plan trips to Moscow for himself and Trump.

Cohen admitted in his plea that he continued working to build Trump Tower Moscow through June 2016. He also acknowledged that he planned at one point to visit Russia but reversed course when he backed out of Trump Tower negotiations.

Kid Rock To Fox: 'Screw That Joy Behar B****!' Crowd Goes Nuts; Fox Hosts Freak Out

To shake things up a bit, "Fox & Friends" sent co-host Steve Doocy to do a segment at Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock & Roll Steakhouse Friday morning and got even more political incorrectness than it was planning for when the rocker offered his thoughts on left-wing "The View" host Joy Behar.

"People need to calm down, get a little less politically correct, and I would say, you know, love everybody — except, I'd say screw that Joy Behar b****," said the performer.

"No, now, you can't—" Doocy interjected, as the audience went wild. "You cannot say that," said Doocy, laughing despite his best efforts. "We apologize for that."

"I mean 'lady,'" said Rock sarcastically.

"She's just got a different point of view than you do," said Doocy.

"Exactly," said the rocker. "You know maybe we'll go on and I'll hash it out with her and we'll talk about it. But exactly, aside from joking, which I was, just go out and hash it out with people and have your thoughts and ideas, but be able to still go have a beer with somebody and say, hey, we all love this country and let's have different ideas but try to move forward and be more together and realize, at the end of the day, we're all Americans."

That also got a big cheer from the crowd.

Doocy wrapped up by offering Rock another chance to apologize for Behar his comment. "I do apologize for the language, not for the sentiment," he said.

"Well, don't feel that way," said Doocy. "We apologize for both."

Cutting back to the studio, the rest of the "Fox & Friends" crew again apologized for the language and stressed that they don't feel that way about Behar. They also suggested they could see Kid Rock being more a part of the programming.

Before making the "Fox & Friends" hosts sweat, Kid Rock answered questions about his teasing of a political run.

"What about when you're done with the rock and roll. Would you think about getting into politics?" Doocy asked.

"Oh, I bet if I have enough to drink one night, I'll think about it again," he said. "I think I'm best served on the sideline being a cheerleader for our troops and our veterans, and you know, maybe just trying to pay my taxes — you know, just be a good American."

Doocy also pointed out that some of the people there at the steakhouse had served in the military and had been entertained by the performer at one of his USO events in Iraq.

"We’d be actually very interested in his candidacy. I certainly wouldn’t count him out," the group's president, Steven Law, said. "The truth of the matter is that he’s done a lot in his home state philanthropically, he’s a pretty smart guy, he thinks about policy and he’s a shrewd businessman. If you’re watching, Kid, we hope you run."

UMass Graduate Students See White Supremacy Everywhere. Here Are Their Outrageous Demands.

In the latest episode of college students protesting for the sake of protesting, the UMass Amherst Graduate Employee Organization is marching against white supremacy, which they believe stems from the College Republicans’ recent speaker, Sean Spicer, the town’s police department, the university’s police department’s anonymous tip line, and the way the university responds to acts of hate.

According to its website, the Graduate Employee Organization represents graduate students who are also “teaching assistants, teaching associates, research assistants, project assistants, assistant residence directors, graduate interns, fellows, and trainees.”

The event’s Facebook Page, titled, “March Against Racism and White Supremacy at UMass Amherst,” listed several instances where hateful acts took place on campus in recent months, but then turns to criticize the College Republicans for hosting a speech by Sean Spicer on campus earlier this week.

“Sean Spicer was invited to speak at UMass and promote himself and his white supremacist views in an academic setting, thereby seemingly ‘legitimizing’ such views as a valid academic discourse,” the organizers wrote.

The organizers claimed that the university offers students “no protection from fascist white supremacists.”

‘Crazy idea’: Sadiq Khan urged to stop Met police’s gun patrols plan

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has come under pressure to stop the London Metropolitan police’s “crazy” plans to send armed patrols into communities, as critics warn such a move will only increase the risk of violent crime.

The proposals have been drawn up by the Met police in an effort to restore public confidence and safety, after a spike in violent crime in the UK’s capital, but the idea has faced stinging criticism, the Guardian reports.

The paper reports that an email has been sent out by Scotland Yard to a select number of community leaders, outlining their plans in response to the knife crime epidemic.

According to official statistics from the Met Police, stabbings in the capital have risen 16 percent in 2018, as knife crime surges across the UK. There were 1,299 stabbings in London up to the end of April. Excluding terrorist attacks, there was a 12-percent rise in murders – the highest figures in a decade.

Ambulance crews increasingly assaulted and stabbed in England and need police escorts for visiting some patients

There are now 1,400 addresses ambulance staff have branded ‘no-go areas’. Around eight paramedics are subjected to a serious attack every day, as they try to carry out their work saving the public.

The North West service, with 756 addresses red-flagged was the country’s worst area for assaults. Some have been stabbed, throttled and even sexually assaulted in their line of work.

Assaults on ambulance crew members have soared by 36 per cent in just five years. More than 2,800 staff were attacked on duty last year, a rise from just over 2,000 in 2013-14.

In London, injuries sustained by staff included asphyxiation, spinal cord damage, burns, dislocations, fractures and concussion.

A shocking 69 ambulance workers reported being sexually assaulted in 2017 in Yorkshire while another 47 were kicked, 24 slapped, 17 bitten and 36 spat upon.

South East Coast Ambulance has seen the number of assaults on staff nearly double in five years from 113 in 2013-14 to 220 in 2017-18.

GMB union national secretary Rehana Azam said: “These terrifying figures underline that ambulance workers, along with all those who work in the emergency services, are forced to work under an increased threat of violence.

“Cuts in funding mean our ambulance workers are more likely to be working alone. Cuts to police services mean back-up isn’t always there.

Martin Flaherty, managing director of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, says a surge in alcohol and drug-related incidents is behind the rise in violence.

New Mexico archdiocese to file for bankruptcy over sex abuse

The Archdiocese of Santa Fe announced Thursday it will soon be filing for bankruptcy protection, as the Catholic church in New Mexico has settled numerous claims of sexual abuse by clergy over the years and is close to depleting its reserves.

About 20 dioceses and other religious orders around the U.S. have filed for bankruptcy protection as a result of clergy sex abuse claims, according to lawyers representing the archdiocese.

Archbishop John Wester said he had been contemplating the action for years but that the archdiocese had reached a tipping point and he wanted to ensure there would be resources to provide compensation for victims.

“I wish to make clear that our first and foremost concern is the victims of sexual abuse and our desire to do all we can to provide for their compensation,” he told reporters. “Reorganization helps us to provide in an equitable manner, especially for those who could come forward in the future as well as those who have already taken the courageous step of making a claim.”

Wester acknowledged a charged atmosphere, pointing to the clergy sex abuse investigation in Pennsylvania and other cases that have garnered national attention. He said the archdiocese has about three dozen cases and he said there will likely be more.

The announcement came as the state attorney general’s office served a pair of search warrants on Wednesday, seeking documents related to two former New Mexico priests who had been credibly accused of sexually abusing children.

The warrants, made public Thursday, describe in graphic detail the sexual abuse endured by children years ago at the hands of the two priests.

The warrants were based on the statements of two unidentified victims and a confidential informant who provided information about the church not following through on settlements and giving ultimatums to victims. That included threats of stopping paid treatment if victims went to authorities with their claims or sought help from doctors that weren’t referred by the church.

Brad Hall, an attorney who has represented more than 100 victims of Catholic clergy abuse in New Mexico, said survivors could be helped by the bankruptcy system to get closure and more transparency.

Calling the archdiocese one of the epicenters of clergy sex abuse in the U.S., Hall suggested the bankruptcy petition is not about money but rather about stopping future claims and trying to control access to past records.

Two more blood pressure drugs recalled for potential cancer risk

Teva Pharmaceuticals has launched a voluntary recall into two drugs used to treat high blood pressure as yet more medications face concerns over a possible cancer risk.

In a statement from Teva posted by the Food and Drug Administration, the recall affects all lots of combination tablets featuring the drugs amlodipine and valsartan and another combo drug featuring amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide.

The drugs could contain an impurity called N-nitroso-diethylamine (NDEA), which has been classified as a possible human carcinogen, the FDA said.

Patients taking either drugs should contact their doctor or pharmacist for advice or alternative treatments. Stopping the drugs immediately with no comparable alternative could pose a greater risk to patients' health, said Teva.

Greek diplomats issue visas to unaccompanied children in organ trafficking ring – former minister

Diplomats from Greece have been blasted as “traitors” by the country’s former foreign minister, after he shockingly repeated allegations that visas were issued “to unaccompanied children to illegally traffic their organs”.

Nikos Kotzias, who resigned last month in a row over Macedonia’s name, damningly said last week – and for the second time – that some 93 cases had been sent for prosecution, with a string of “highly respected ambassadors” already behind bars.

“And only because I saved several souls will I sleep in peace when my life ends,” he said, as he spoke to Greece’s Union of Newspaper Journalists of Athens (ESIEA).

The first time the ex-minister made such allegations was in October, when he slammed those alleged to have handed out the visas as not merely “criminals” but “traitors” too.

Kotzias then turned to accuse the media over its silence, saying: “A visa for a 14-month-old unaccompanied baby and they tried to cover it up.”

It is feared thousands of unaccompanied minors roaming Greece are at risk of sexual exploitation or trafficking. There are 3,050 unaccompanied child migrants in Greece, of whom 1,272 (42 percent) are either homeless, live in a temporary or an unidentified location, local news site Kathimerini reports.

Virginia School Bans Christmas Carols Mentioning ‘Jesus’

To celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ, the Robious Middle School in Midlothian, Virginia, has banned any Christmas carols that mention the name of Jesus.

School administrators reportedly explained they had made the decision to “avoid singing anything of a direct sacred nature” in order to be “more sensitive to the increasing diverse population at the school.”

David Allen, the father of a student at Robious Middle School, has expressed his concern over the exclusion of Jesus from Christmas songs to be performed at school Christmas concerts.

Allen said students were forbidden from singing a particular carol “because the word Jesus was in there and apparently someone assumed it was of a sacred nature.”

According to Allen, it seems as if “everywhere you look everyone’s afraid of stepping on someone’s toes or everything is being so sensitive.”

In an email exchange with Allen, the school’s choir director said that the Jesus ban stems from problems experienced by students.

“We had a few students who weren’t comfortable singing a piece I have done many times in the past, but it is of a sacred nature and does mention Jesus,” the choir director wrote.

While this exchange was going on, Allen said he had received a “diversity notice” from the school explaining their commitment to diversity and inclusion, which struck him as paradoxical.

“I’m trying to rationalize how you can encourage diversity and yet be exclusionary in one specific area,” Allen remarked.

Attorney Michael Berry of First Liberty Institute wrote a letter to the Chesterfield County School District, of which Robious Middle School is a part, explaining that that, legally, public schools have no reason to ban Jesus from Christmas concerts or other celebrations.

“Federal courts have upheld the constitutionality of public school holiday programs that include the use of religious music, art, or drama,” Berry wrote, “so long as the material is presented in an objective manner ‘as a traditional part of the cultural and religious heritage of the particular holiday.’”
