Emmanuel Macron Complains to Saudi Crown Prince: ‘You Never Listen to Me’

A Saudi newspaper filmed French President Emmanuel Macron complaining to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the young ruler’s unwillingness to take his advice as world leaders met in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the G-20 Summit on Friday.

Citing a French official, Reuters reports the pair discussed the Yemeni Civil War and killing of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi during a brief intermission in the high-stakes talks.

In a video shared to Twitter via the Saudi Gazette, an irritated Macron is seen grumbling to the Crown Prince: “You never listen to me.”

“No, I will listen, of course,” bin Salman replies, prior to bursting into laughter.

Macron, undeterred and continuing on with the conversation, later says, “I’m a man of my word.”

During the five-minute exchange, Salman is heard urging Macron not to worry, to which the French president promptly replied, “I am worried.”

Reuters reports:

Macron’s office said the meeting with MbS [was] justified because European nations wanted to send a united message about the need for probity in the investigation and were not going to sidestep an opportunity to reinforce that message during the G20.

Earlier, the Elysee said the video showed “a sort of contrast between MbS’s face sporting an embarrassed smile and the (French) president’s face, which was rather stern, and was keen to convey these messages in a very firm manner”.

Overall the exchange appeared cordial, with Macron attempting to get his point across, speaking with his hands in front of him and looking MbS in the eye. MbS nods repeatedly and appears accommodating and somewhat apologetic.

Macron’s tense interaction with Salman was in stark contrast to his warm embrace of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who high-fived and shared a laugh with each other at the summit’s start.

Putin and the Crown Prince are slated to meet during the annual gathering to talk about Khashoggi’s murder and oil production. In a statement to Russian news outlet TASS, Kremlin official Yuri Ushakov said of the meeting: “The political dialogue [between Russia and Saudi Arabia] is regular and substantive. On October 5, 2017, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the first time made a visit to Russia. Vladimir Putin’s possible return visit to Saudi Arabia is on the agenda.”

During the course of the day, President Trump “exchanged pleasantries” with Salman, telling reporters that while they didn’t talk about hot-button issues concerning the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, it was possible the pair would do so as the summit rolled on.

“We had no discussion. We might [later], but we had none,” President Trump told the press pool.

President Trump Arrives At G20 Welcomed By World Leaders, Mueller Tags Along

President Trump arrived in Argentina for the G20 summit with the First Lady at his side and they were warmly greeted by the Argentinian President and other world leaders. One world leader who Trump won't be meeting with is Russian President Vladimir Putin. President Trump abruptly canceled his meeting with Putin at the G20 summit allegedly over the current conflicts in the Black Sea.

The President's administration hopes that the G20 trip will showcase Trump's unique talent for dealmaking. However, special counsel Robert Mueller who was appointed to investigate Russian collusion nearly two years ago and has yet to find a thing, also arrived in Argentina to trail the President's every move.

Former New York mayor and now a legal advisor to President Trump, Rudy Giuliani called out Mueller and Michael Cohen for announcing a deal between the two parties just as Trump is arriving at the G20 summit. Giuliani represents Trump in the Russia probe and had this to say:

"It's no surprise that Cohen lied to Congress. He's a proven liar who is doing everything he can to get out of a long-term prison sentence for serious crimes of bank and tax fraud that had nothing to do with the Trump Organization. It is important to understand that documents that the Special Counsel’s Office is using to show that Cohen lied to Congress were voluntarily disclosed by the Trump Organization because there was nothing to hide."

He also added that Mueller timed Cohen's guilty plea to coincide with Trump's arrival for the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Argentina. Giuliani also noted that Mueller "did the very same thing as the President was leaving for a world summit in Helsinki." When news broke of Cohen's guilty plea, Trump slammed his former attorney as a "weak person" and accused him of "lying" in order to get a better deal.

Latest Filing Provides Evidence that Nancy Salzman has Flipped

The latest filing by the prosecutors in the pending criminal case against Keith Raniere, Clare Bronfman, Allison Mack, Nancy Salzman, Lauren Salzman, and Kathy Russell seems to lend credence to the persistent rumor that Nancy Salzman is negotiating – or has negotiated – a plea deal with the prosecution.

Here are some of the reasons why I say that:

– Only three of the defendants – i.e., Keith, Clare, and Nancy – are asserting that they have any claim of attorney/client privilege with respect to any of the materials that have been seized by the government as potential evidence.

– Even though it is not a named defendant in this matter, the corporate entity NXIVM has now retained its own counsel – Michael J. Sullivan – and is now making its own representations with respect to some of the issues concerning the attorney/client privilege claims that are being asserted by Keith and Clare.

– Although Keith has often claimed that he was the co-founder of NXIVM – and although Clare has described herself as NXIVM’s Director of Operations – it is believed that neither of them has any provable ownership interest in the company and/or any documentation to show that they were ever employed by the corporation. That leaves Nancy as the one who is in sole control of what NXIVM does – or doesn’t do – in this case.

– A disagreement has apparently developed in terms of what sort of claims of attorney/client privilege Clare can assert. One example of this disagreement concerns an attorney named Jonathan Ware who worked on a variety of immigration-related matters for NXIVM-related individuals (More on him in a future post). In this regard, Clare has asserted that in her capacity as a representative of NXIVM, she is entitled to attorney/client privilege regarding all her communications with Mr. Ware. But the attorney representing NXIVM has asserted that if any such privilege exists, it is in Clare’s capacity as an individual and not as a representative of NXIVM (He also claims that Mr. Ware never represented NXIVM).

– Another disagreement has developed as to whether there are/were any “Joint Defense Agreements” in place between NXIVM and any of the individual defendants. Keith and Clare claim that such agreements exist – but NXIVM’s attorney claims there are no such agreements.

So, what does all this mean?

Well, to begin with, it appears that Keith and Clare are working hand-in-hand on all the issues that have arisen regarding their assertions of attorney/client privilege with respect to the seized materials.

But Nancy does not appear to be part of that team.

And NXIVM – which, as noted earlier, is apparently under Nancy’s sole and absolute control – is disputing at least some of the claims being asserted by Keith and Clare.

If Nancy has decided to cut a deal for herself – and maybe for her daughter, Lauren – she would likely not be doing anything to help Keith and Clare right now. Nor would she be directing NXIVM’s attorney to be doing anything to help them – which is certainly what seems to be happening here.

Whatever is going on should get a lot clearer next week. That’s because the Magistrate Judge who is overseeing this aspect of the case, the Honorable Vera Scanlon, has scheduled a Status Conference at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, December 4th, to hear arguments from all the affected parties about any issues concerning attorney/client privilege claims.

That could be the start of a really bad week for Raniere. Because on Thursday, December 6th, he – along with all his co-defendants – will be appearing before Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis at a Status Conference concerning the criminal case itself. And if Judge Garaufis has not already done so prior to that date, he may issue a ruling on Raniere’s pending bail motion at the December 6th conference.

Who knows? Judge Garaufis may even play Raniere’s now-infamous YouTube video – which was part of his bail application package – in open court.

That would certainly guaranty a full courtroom…

Appellate court plans closed session in mystery plaintiff's suit against Mueller

A federal appeals court announced Friday that it would hold a closed oral argument session on Dec. 14, to address a lawsuit apparently filed against Special Counsel Robert Mueller by an unidentified grand jury witness.

Much of the detail in the case remains under seal, and there has been intense speculation in the legal and political communities over the identity of the mystery appellant.

Speculation in some media was that President Trump himself had filed the lawsuit back in August, but his attorney denied it.

The suit could be related to a possible subpoena for the witness to appear before the federal grand jury empaneled by Mueller, who is looking into a range of issues, including the extent of Russia interference in the 2016 election.

This case is not related to the appeal by Andrew Miller, a former associate of Trump confidant Roger Stone, who is resisting a Mueller subpoena. Miller’s case was argued Nov. 8 before the same D.C.-based appeals court.

The three-judge panel hearing the mystery case includes those appointed by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
