Smartsheet is oriented to business, they offer a free 30 (actually 28) day trial, then you pay for the service depending on how many you want to be allowed to edit the sheet.
I used the free trial numerous times. They saw the traffic (massive) but were not getting any revenue so they cut off access.
Github is more for testing code - they saw the traffic (massive) and said 'find another platform dude!" (paraphrase)

That would be the system they were fighting against. The people who set up that system were not them.
