President Bush graciously agreed to be interviewed at his office on the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine. His easygoing grace and wit during the interview often had everyone in the room laughing. A brass plaque across from his desk reads CAVU, or “ceiling and visibility unlimited,” and is one hint of his naval aviation career’s importance to his later life. Despite a long and distinguished political career filled with many achievements, Bush still treasures his years in the Navy as one of the best times of his life, and has said the commissioning of the carrier bearing his name “means everything“ to him.
