WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) – A small plane on Saturday afternoon crashed into a building in Fort Lauderdale in U.S. southeastern state Florida, leaving two dead and one injured, the authorities said.

The pilot and passenger aboard the plane were dead following the fiery crash into an occupied therapy center for children with autism, local media quoted Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan as saying.

The center, located near the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, sustained "substantial structural damage" and caught on fire with five children and eight adults inside, Gollan said.

A police assault rifle has reportedly been stolen by protesters amid violent clashes with officers in Paris.

The protest, against rising taxes and the high cost of living, turned into a riot on Saturday as police fired tear gas and water cannon in street battles with activists wearing the fluorescent yellow vests of a new movement.

Police said at least 80 people, including 16 police officers, were injured and 183 others arrested. Thousands of police were deployed in the French capital to try to contain the demonstrations.

Lawyers led by Amal Clooney have filed a civil lawsuit against French cement company Lafarge over the company's secret payment of millions of euros to terrorist groups including Daesh in Syria between 2011 and 2015 to allow the company to continue running a local cement plant.
